So, of course Peggy's death will have a terrible effect on her husband, her son, and her niece. Her brother might even come in off the oil rig to attend the funeral. Her father-in-law might even use her name. And Nancy won't have a her to confide in anymore.

But Bill Dauterive will be devastated. He'll be bouncing on the trampoline in an effort to communicate with Peggy's Angel. He'll have to retire from the Army. He's got no emotional support at all. We've seen how a divorce after a year of marriage affects him even six or seven years later. He's known Peggy for over twenty years. Poor Bill.

Bill, as usual, is SOL, if this really happened.........hey, could this have been a nightmare HE had? As far as we know, something awful happening to Peggy could ( with minor variations based on current events like the Hills' anniversary ) be Standard Dauterive Anxiety Dream #2, right behind the one in which he comes home from work to find that everyone in town has moved away just to escape from him, and ahead of the one where he suddenly realizes that he's been standin' there cutting hair in the nude ( and all the other army barbers laugh and laugh............). In fact, this could easily be SDAD #1........we have good reason to believe that he's loved Peggy long before he'd ever met the ex-Mrs Dauterive..........hmm, sudden flash of insight as to why that union never really took root ( wanna bet the ex has really big feet? ).................this could be something Bill has dreamt four out of every five nights for years!
