Cartoonist and voice artist Mike Judge is gearing up for another season of Fox's "King of the Hill." He says he's through with "Beavis & Butt-head." After making 230 five-minute "B&B" shorts and a hit movie, Judge is finished with the juvenile bad boys of MTV. "I think it's definitely time to stop that," he said during an interview in Pasadena, Calif., last week. "I think there could be another 'Beavis and Butt-head' movie or a special down the road, but for now, I'm happy doing Hank Hill." "King of the Hill," which debuted in January, was the biggest midseason hit on any network and could enjoy as long a run as "The Simpsons," which will hit its 200th episode this fall. "King" follows the misadventures of a middle-aged propane gas salesman, Hank Hill, his blue-collar family and neighbors in Arlen, Texas. Judge, 34, who lives in Austin, Texas, is a former physics major and ex-rock musician who taught himself to draw. His raunchy "Beavis and Butt-head" gags reflect his own teen years as a "dateless misfit." He says Hank is closer to his life now as a family man. There are 24 new episodes headed our way beginning Sept. 21. What to expect:
*On the opener, "Texas City Twister," Hank and family brace for an impending tornado. *On another episode, pop-punk rockers Green Day play a fictional garage band, Cain and the Stubborn Stains. When Hank complains about their music, they record his voice and play it back at high speed to make fun of him. "It's weird, but at high speed, Hank sounds like Beavis," Judge says. *Hank's 12-year-old son, Bobby, gets his first gun. The usually inept child turns out to be a crack shot. *Tammy Wynette will play Hank's mom, who brings home a Jewish boyfriend (Carl Reiner). Hank catches them in a romantic clinch and temporarily goes blind. *On a fishing outing, Hank unknowingly buys cocaine when he mistakes a crack house for a bait shop. But this bait really works as Hank catches some "big fish." *Sally field plays a fundamentalist who tries to stop the town from celebrating Halloween. *Other guest stars this season include Chris Rock, Burt Reynolds, Stockard Channing, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman, Jennifer Jason Leigh (as Hank's old flame) and political consultant James Carville. How do the writers get ideas for these shows? They take field trips to Texas, where they hang out in malls.
