The show may have been more about _revenge_ than anything else. Bobby Hill didn't have Hank Hill's sophisticated appreciation of the difficulties in supporting Peggy's desire to enter the contest, so she reimplanted an old nightmare in his subconscious. Then Peggy ran roughshod over Luanne's feelings when she hired a professional beauty consultant, so Luanne took her revenge with the shoe and the hair and (almost) with the glasses. The big one of course was the attempt to bribe Nancy with the cookies (after having almost destroyed Nancy's world a couple of weeks ago), which didn't _quite_ have the desired effect. Nancy had a good line in there about being judged by a woman like her. So we're getting to see a sinister side to all three women.
On another note, Luanne's hair (if it's not just another wig) seems to have about a two-year growth to it now, but Bobby is still apparently twelve (as he was in the couch episode over a year after his twelfth birthday), and Didi still apparently hasn't had her baby. Cartoon time is a funny thing.
