National Nielsen Ratings for The Simpsons and King of the Hill

This time, X-Files beat its preceeding series on Fox like usual. The Simpsons garnered a 5.5/11 rating. King of the Hill got 5.4/10. The episodes that aired the night of July 6th were "Burns, Baby Burns" and "Hank's Got the Willies." As it were, the ratings for "Burns, Baby Burns" when it first aired were 7.7. It was ranked 65th out of 113 shows. I am currently unaware of how many ratings "Hank's Got the Willies" got in its first and second run. I am also unaware of where Simpsons and King of the Hill ranked out of 109 shows for the week of June 30th-July 6th.

For the record, The X-Files got a 7.3/13 rating and climbed back into the top 20 at #20.

Yes, but it does happen. America's Most Wanted began airing new episodes at that time, but then again it was a special occasion.

I've heard King of the Hill isn't going to start it's new season on October 5th. I read about this in TV Guide, Kathy Najimy (Peggy) got into a mild car accident, Brittney Murphy (Luanne) is currently making a movie, and Pamela Seagul (Bobby) is busy with her newborn baby.

And they're going to have some of the writers of the show take place for those three voice artists. So that's probably why KoTH won't have their new season until October.

Actually, the TV Guide article stated that the incidents you mentioned affected only a practice reading of the script. Since the actresses were busy and missed that session, the writers substituted for them. Besides, did _you_ think a man would do the voice of Peggy Hill on the show? ;)

As for the season premiere, wasn't there an episode held over from last season ("The Company Man," 4E12) because of production problems? I would guess that the season would start in late September/early October.

No. The writers took the missing voice actors' place in the _table readings_. The lines will naturally be recorded by the original actors. (I think it might sound a bit funny for Paul Lieberstein's voice to come out of Peggy Hill's mouth).

For about the 5th week, King of the Hill got stronger ratings than The Simpsons. I suppose people were more interested in a unique story that DIDN'T have about 8 minutes of joke-filler. ("I *rumble* don't *rumble* think *rumble* we should *rumble* talk *rumble* unless *rumble* it's *rumble* absolutely *rumble* posi-tively *rumble* necessary *violent rumble*").

Anyway, the ratings were as follows for Sunday night:

7 PM: Alien Autopsy: Fact or Fiction - Ratings: 3.8/8
8 PM: The Simpsons ("Mountain of Madness") - Ratings: 5.8/12
8:30: King of the Hill ("Plastic White Female") - Ratings: 6.9/13
      (exceptionally higher than The Simpsons.  Even 4 points higher than hit
      X-Files)
9 PM: The X-Files - Ratings: 6.5/11

Did anyone tell you that it's re-run time and people are watching the shows they haven't seen yet! Get a clue!

So how does that work? Unless The Simpsons WASN'T a re-run this week, that theory doesn't really hold water.

Regardless of what people think, King of the Hill is a successful show on its own. It got about 3 wins over The Simpsons during the new season--one of which during Boston Common's (infinite) hiatus. Furthermore, Touched by an Angel is stiffer competition than 3rd Rock and Boston Common combined.

i know you know what you're talking about ondre, but those shows that compete with the simpsons and KOTH have totally different audiences. i mean 3rd rock and boston common are targeted at roughly the same audience as the simpsons and KOTH, while touched by an angel appeals (mostly) to old women and foot-washing baptists (who probably think those other shows are the work of the devil anyway) Let the flaming commence! and this isnt even a troll, really.

Fox re-ran THIS again? Yeah, I know about the Roswell 50th anniversary and the box office success of (the very good) "Men in Black" and (even better) "Contact", but still...how many times have they showed the stupid thing? Has Homer or Dale or Mulder taken control of Fox?
