Is Bobby gay?

I was discussing KOTH with a coworker the other day, specifically the "Bobby Goes Nuts" episode. She says, as if it were patently obvious, "Well, of course, Bobby's gay."

What?!

I said, in my best Khan Soupanousaphon voice, "If he so gay, how come he got his little hillbilly paws all over Khan Jr!" I do a great Khan. She comes back with "Well, that's meaningless."

"Well, what about Kerri Strugg? He's hot for Kerri Strugg, too" The discussion went downhill from there.

Personally, I feel that if Bobby really were gay it would ruin one of the great running gags of the whole series. That is, that Bobby does all these things that can be percived as stereotypically (at least to Hank) gay, yet be one of the straightest kids in the world. The more gay (again, to Hank's eyes) Bobby acts, the funnier it is.

Perhaps it's just because I was a lot like Bobby when I was his age (a lot!) and turned out perfectly straight, I'm just coloring it with my views.

I think that is exactly the point. Bobby is the one kid left on TV who has not been sexualized. Perfect example: in "Aisle 8-A," Connie's mom warns her that Bobby is "only interested in one thing." Bobby's response, "Well, would somebody let me know what that is, because I am soooo confused."

Bobby is an innocent, completely oblivious to the sexualization of the society around him. And as far as I'm concerned, the less 12-year-olds worry about sex, the better.

Bobby has shown definately gay tendencies, but so has Homer Simpson and I don't think anyone thinks Homer is gay.

I recently saw the episode where Luann lost her hair and her school made her a wig. She rejected it, so Bobby tried it on and Hank quickly pulled it off his head. Watching that reminded me of my own father who was like Hank in that he couldn't express his feelings very well.

If Bobby were gay that wouldn't bother me a bit, but I think it's fairly clear that he does have an interest in girls and has not yet expressed any interest in boys, other than as buddies. If anything, he's bisexual, leaning strongly toward heterosexual.

But his esthetic sense is distinctly feminine. Of course, feminine != gay, it just = feminine. He's a bright kid with a lot of artistic and poetic sensibility. Neither Peggy nor Hank truly, fully understand him.
