KOTH = An Underrated Satire

I am usually watching my Atlanta Fox station for the novel delights at 7:30pm eastern M-F.

These were some episodes over the years that I have generally missed, because they were shown at 7:30 on Sundays during SIXTY MINUTES and that other similarly compelling newsy magazine program on NBC (name escapes).

I am glad the KOTH artistries are shown now at 8:30 after THE SIMPSON'S on Sunday nights.

For some reason I just don't tape them as I do simultaneous network news programs.

I also don't tape the Letterman shows which I also like, but invariably fall asleep before/after the monologues and David's trademark top 10.

Last night's KOTH was about the rodeo. The cow patties and horse apples smell like rodeo clowns, while the rotund 7th grader apprentice clown-hero Robert Hill saves the day by farting at the angry bovine attempting to do-in Joseph Gribble.

These are decidedly not shallow TOM 'N JERRY loony toons. I am impressed by the story intricacies and the depth of creative explorations into the complex facets humanity.

It's mostly comedy yet there is enough drama and pathos to keep this childish aged (58) viewer's serious attention span.

I also laughed with Jon Lovitz' THE CRITIC.

It was inside baseball in that the viewer was expected to think of a fusion of the catty Rex Reed, Roger Hebert, Joel Siegel, Gene Shalit etal ad absurdum.

The hoity-toity film allusions were elusive, gassy highbrow cinematic while the toon characters were campy, slapstick, and stereotype parodies.

For instance: The modest Texan who owned the cable station meddled too much with the content because of payola, and thus his critic was forced to prostitute ... uh... where is reality? I've lost it.

"The Critic" was on ABC and it was perpetrated by mad off-spring off-shoots of THE SIMPSONS, and I do miss it.

I knew a guy who looked just like THE CRITIC. First time I saw him and stopped and was like "Huh?".
