Two more clues in my favorite quest. Where is ARLEN? 1. When the computer was printing out all of those address labels it listed a ZIP code(Didn't catch it though.) 2.When he went to the county dump it listed a county name on the sign.
Did anyone catch them and check them out?

I still think the closest city to resemble Arlen is Killeen, TX. It's about 45 miles north of Austin. It's on the small side - maybe 40,000 population. It's also adjacent to Ft. Hood, a large Army base. And it has a few small high-tech companies, which supports my theory that Kahn moved from NoCal to Arlen to work for one of them.

As before mentioned, "78701" is the zip code for downtown Austin. The County listed at the dump is "Heimlich County." Heimlich is the name of a famous doctor who perfected a way to save a choking victim known as "The Heimlich Manuver." I can't say if that's a real county either, but that must be the only reason why this show manages to make use of not hinding the actural location the town is (Simpsons' town may bring this to mind).

I would suspect that Arlen is one of two places near Dallas. I always thought that it was Arlington (just between Dallas and Ft. Worth). But my sister says that it is really Mike Judge's hometown, Garland (which is slightly north and east of Dallas). All the towns run together in the Dallas area.

Mike Judge lives in Austin and every now and then the writers visit town for "inspiration". But I'm sure it probably is an amalagamation of Garland, Arlington, Austin and any other Texas town Mike may have nested in.

Austin may be a city, but it's always felt like a small town (unfortunately it's becoming a small town being overrun with Californians, but don't get me started). :) The episode of Arlen being in crisis because of snow was pure Austin. I won't say it's a complete panic when it snows here (because it doesn't snow here often), but it is a sight to behold. :)

I've thought it was a combination of Garland and Austin, two of Judge's towns. The name is an amalgam, maybe inspired by one of Austin's great recording studios, Arlyn.

For some reason, Arlen strikes me as being a suburb of Dallas. Along the same lines, I always felt 'Beavis & Butthead' was set in a suburb of my own hometown, Houston...
