Well she's clearly not a genius. I think she'd be lucky to score in the average range.

Peggy to me has an i.q. at least in the 120-130 range of the Stanford-Benet, which is on the top...what..25 percent of population.

Her voice sounds like my next door neighbor's here in Georgia.

Peggy is average to bright, but NO genius. That's part of the bit. She is certain she's a genius, but she is actually quite gullible and naive.

Dale is very intellignet BUT he is emotionally insecure enough that, while his natural intelligence would *tell* him his wife's cheating, his emotions won't allow him to see it. There's a big "don't go there!" sign in his mind where his wife and J.R. are concerned.

Brightest one on the show? I don't know. But what I *do* know is that everyone on the show has some naivete in some area. With Peggy, it's trusting people. With Hank it's regarding his work and ethics. With Dale it's his wife, etc.

My vote for the brightest? Either Khan, Bobby or Khan Jr. Or Boomhauer? :)

Interestingly, although there are naive folks on the show, there are no really *dumb* ones! I mean, Homer Simpson dumb. Everyone shows some areas of intelligence.

Quickly re-understanding, recalling, and also having to explain "the corresponding parts of corresponding triangles" and esoteric theorems are not necessarily a measure of one's "ability to adapt."

Memory deteriorates over time: That's why they make ginko bilobia (sp?) and acetyl cholene for Dr. McConnell's experiments with planarian worms.

"Adaptivity" is (or was) an huge concept in the vernacular of education psychology regarding the defining of "intelligence."

Re: Spanish

Excellence in foreign language skill is much more easily acquired in one's early-formative-childhood years, especially if one's parent(s) are bi-lingual.

Peggy may have taken Spanish "cold" as part of a bachelor of liberal arts degree requirement at perhaps an "Arlyn State College."

I myself stupidly took Latin (instead of Spanish) for 2 or 3 years in high school, but then foolishly took French (instead of Spanish or Latin) in college; and came to regret the folly.

My French pronounciation--having never lived in a French language society--est merde (is sh_t).

Overly-ambitious learners flunkout of college or may lose (Georgia's Hope) scholarship money because they get more cold French, or cold German and/or cold Russian languages than they can handle along with three to five other courses.

The most propitious time to learn a language is in childhood, and the place is where that lingo is spoken.

And our Peggy of Texas as a college Spanish major is nevertheless not living in Mexico.

I am unconvinced the good woman is not above average, as are all the folks' children of Lake Woebegone.
