Luanne: Queen of Evil?

there've been a few posts lately about Luanne's "darker side." oh,
c'mon.....Luanne isn't nasty rotten evil bad.....she's just sensitive.
she's been hurt, and it's left her very vulnerable. her feelings, both
good _and_ bad, are close to the surface.....a little nudge and they're
right out there in all their glory!
         i'll grant you, her little sequence with the garbage disposal
in this week's ep was delightfully vindictive, but put it in
context.....she'd just been dumped as beauty consultant by her surrogate
mother ( after having been dumped by her actual mother.....and what
about dear ol' dad? it doesn't speak very well for _him_ that he didn't
bother to take his daughter along when he ran for his life, does it? i
wonder when he'll be showing up.........). and that tantrum she threw in
last season's cliffhanger was because Hank took the job that she needed
to get the money to stay in beauty school. see the connection? Luanne
has put her hopes and dreams into being a celebrity beautician.....sure,
with her skills ( and attendance record ) it's probably just a fantasy,
but it keeps her going.......anything that threatens that dream brings
her pain right up to the surface. feeling guilty about splitting up with
Buckley right before his explosive demise hasn't helped, either........
         Luanne ain't bad.....she's just a hurtin' puppy! ( and,
besides, wouldn't _you_ be mad if they drew _your_ nose that way? )

I quite agree. And Hank was nasty to her right along, when he found out she was applying for the propane job, which I didn't like to see. I mean, she took the hint and didn't come right out and ask him for money; then she tried to get a job and pay her own way, and he threw a sandwich at her! IRL, though, there would have been another job at the Megalo Mart she could have had. She certainly would have been a better greeter than Buckley.

Well, you guys do know that Hank is troubled by his attraction to Luanne! He's dealing with repressed lust, that's why he's nasty to her, he wants her bad.

Right you are. Luanne's revenge in the Mrs. Arlen episode is thoroughly reasonable under the circumstances, as is Nancy's after having had her entire family threatened by Peggy not long before. But this episode still shows their sinister side, when other episodes rarely do. But Peggy's revenge on her only child does come pretty close to "nasty rotten evil bad" when she implants the old nightmare in his subconscious because he hadn't been as evasive as Hank in his discouragement of her hopes in the beauty contest.

I never noticed anything wrong with her nose. But Luanne (and the other characters on the show) have yet to recognize what the creators have banged us over the head with several times: her occupational destiny lies not in the beauty industry, but in auto mechanics. She fixed Hank's truck in a flash in the first episode, and later fixed Cotton's car every time he sabotaged it. She has a natural talent for it. With a little help she could be outearning the whole rest of the family.

But her sinister side is nicely done, and I think (if Brittany Murphy's performances in _David and Lisa_ and _Freeway_ are any clue) we have only begun to see that Luanne is not to be messed with.

Well, it is just a cartoon. I think Luanne is just being silly sometimes. Anyone remember when they were at Buckley's funeral and she put up the picture of Bobby in his underwear?

Also, I think she's also hurting from her past, too. People who have bad pasts feel self-pity for themselves for a very long time. Time heals wounds. Maybe one day, Luanne will start feeling better about herself.
