I can't believe that Connie wouldn't have SOME idea what she needed to remedy the situation. I mean, I can imagine Minh avoiding the subject, because that's how she and Khan are: obsessing over things that don't matter and ignoring things that do. But didn't Tom Landry Middle School, or Connie's school in Anaheim, give girls The Talk? Peggy's still pre-menopausal, and Luann is in the flower of youth, so if Connie had known the use (and existence) of tampons and pads, she would have been able to find them under the sink. You have to learn to use a tampon, but not a pad. As far as cramps, ibuprofen is less than a miracle cure, but better than nothing, and I think Hank could have found the Advil without having a meltdown. That said, I can understand Hank's frustration, not so much with the immediate problem, but with the unwillingness of everyone else to let him off the hook.

So I'm guessing you didn't like _Carrie_ much, either. "The talk" in Arlen was given only "this year" (when Bobby was 12), and Bobby was the only one in the class with a permission slip. Connie knew what was happening; she just didn't know what to do about it with her mother out of town. Minh may well not either use pads or keep them under the sink, but that would have been at her house in any case, and Connie was at the Hill's House. Peggy certainly wouldn't keep them under the sink for Hank or Bobby to find. I must have missed the line about cramps, but there were several about PMS, for which the suggested medication is not much use. Hank did a fine job of helping a neighbor through an awkward p^H^H time.

Yeah, you're right. But maybe this will make everyone realize that the more you try to avoid stuff that makes you uncomfortable, the worse it will be when you're forced to confront it.

But of course it makes a better show that way. You can only do so many trash-can jokes. And systems-analysis jokes are born with a problem. Did you hear the old one about the ISDOS upgrade?

Well, duh. I meant the viewers would realize this.

You can only do so many

No, what about it?

Thanks for the explanation.

I am the oldest of four boys, yet I have two daughters.

Just in case something happens to my wife before she gives me The Talk!

Dang - and I thought Barbies and American Girls were confusing.
