This is most definately the best show, animation or otherwise, on the tv today.

Proof:

Hank tells peg he can't shoot. she turns away for a second and bites her lip to pull herself together. then she turns to him and says "I love you, anyway."

The NRA is in Washington line.

The guy with the eye patch jumping out into the firing lane to show everyone how good the kid did.

And the same guy giving the thumbs up, and his thumb has been blown off.

cecil i really should get one of them sig files. but i'm the kind of guy who would just keep wanting to change it every day.

It's so like a rightwing crackpot to take a line like that out of context and use it as ill thought out bait for gun bashing. A gun is a tool, like anything else. If people walked around stabbing each other with wooden sticks, all the kooks out there would try to classify wooden sticks murder weapons. In reality, they're just sticks, and the only way they relate to murder is by the idiots who use them as such weapons. One could kill a person by running them over with a car, by bashing their head in with a golf club, by tossing them into an air vaccum chamber, by poisoning them, from stabbing them, to driving them nuts with rightwing rhetoric. Shall we ban cars, golf clubs, vaccum chambers, chemicals, knives and rightwing nuts now?

So what if they did glamorize it? What's wrong with children being taught how to properly use a gun over them buying one for five bucks behind some school in downtown L.A. and shooting up a liquor store? Kids should be taught how to use and how not to use a gun right off the bat, and last night's episode, albeit looking at the scenario from a comical standpoint, did exactly that. Television's job isn't to teach anything, actually. It's an entertainment medium, and that is all. Jumping on the internet and telling other viewiers how you morally object to the show and therefore won't watch it will only make you look like a sniveling boob. Different types entertainment only exist because people themselves is different. God forbid the day when extremists (a label best fitting for the ANTI-gun types) get their way and everyone becomes a clone of everyone else.

Big deal. What do you think humans did to survive for the last thousand years? They killed animals and ate them. Should we all starve to death now because you object to murdering animals? If the masses don't hunt, McDonalds and the other beef retailers will murder billions of cattle systematically to feed them. How does a different method of doing the same thing -- murder for food -- make one way wrong but not the other? You're totally irrational.

Kook!

Maybe it's a reference to the Simpson's creator Matt Groieng's 'Life In Hell' character Binky?

Maybe it was Hank's doll as a child...I saw an episode of the Simpsons where Bart had this very doll.

An obscure reference?

I highly doubt it, since Life in Hell wasn't around when Hank was a child. Consider that Hank is about 40 now (or a few years younger than Matt Groening), which means those flashbacks probably took place in the late 1960s. I don't think MG started Life in Hell until the late 1970s at the earliest, so there's no chance that young Hank would have had a Binky doll. As for what "Binky" really is, that may have been the name of the pail Cotton alluded to.

Wrong try again. Guns are for protection, and everyone needs to know how to operate it. Ignorance about a potentially dangerous device is not blissed, it will cost your in terms of the accident. I supposed you missed the part about the guy who lost both his thumb and eye? Gun safety, not gun ignorance is stressed in this episode. Second, people do hunt as a form of entertainment. You want to ban it, be my guest. But to blanket condem it is something we don't need.

Further more, how can you do a show about Texas life style and not touch on gun culture? Most people who are involved in the gun culture are usually introduced in the same matter as the episode, a father to son deal.

Be my guest, and don't let the door hit you on your way out...

perhaps then, instead of writing (and reposting) this article, you should have hung your head in a toilet bowl and puked.

i believe the reason for hunting season in this and just about every other civilized country is to thin out the herd, so that they don't fall prey to starvation and disease. also money from licensing of hunters goes to pay for blah blah blah... you know all these things, you just want to project your repressed hostility onto gun owners. you just want to equate a favorite pasttime of MEN with sensless killing and violence. you girls are all alike! it reminds me of Gallager's great line: you know why women don't like to go fishing? cause you have to be quiet!

im sure you have on a pair of nike air's when you head to your step aerobics class in style in your new infiniti sedan.

i don't remember anything but targets (ok, they were targets of babmi) getting blasted to bits on that show. and people were getting penalized for hitting the good guys. that promotes responsible killing.

i, for one, will continue to watch. and if you're a bitch on the rag, or a doe, a deer, a female deer, don't come around my place during hunting season.

don't trust anything that bleeds for five days and doesn't die.

Why don't you just stick to shows like "Family Matters" (the Urkel show) if all you want is PC diatribe.

By the way, I'm sure much more than 7% of the rural Texas population hunts.

Anyone who thought Sunday's episode was an endorsement of "guns" is just plain nuts. Ever hear of satire? The writers all had their tongues planted firmly in their respective cheeks while penning this episode.

Call me a fool, but I think that King of the Hill exhibits a healthier attitude. From the very first, Hank tried to insure that Bobby knew how to handle his gun, care for it, and use it safely. Before you begin quoting from half a dozen cases of kids who accidentally shoot themselves or their friends by playing with their fathers' loaded handgun, _ask_ yourself, calmly and dispassionately: would Bobby ever do that? would Hank ever let that happen?

The protective instinct, misapplied, is sometimes more dangerous, you know. Is it necessarily a good thing to keep guns "far away from children"? To keep them completely ignorant, is that what we want?

I think your attitude to be dangerous, stupid, and self-defeating.

By rights, we should have quit watching the show when they glamorized child abuse. How about when they glamourized constipation? Remember when they glamorized smoking? I also don't like the way they glamorize riding lawn mowers. For me, the last straw was when they glamorized competitive Boggle!

Did you even watch the show? They did not go out into woods to shoot Bambi, they went down the Arlen gun club and praticed shooting. Hank demostrated that he wasn't very good at shooting. Yes they shot at wooden figures of animals, but did you see anyone shoot at a real live animal?

Second, they made fun of the NRA, and shooting with the range safety officer who routinely ran out in front of the shooters while they were practicing. On the one hand, they emphasized a sport, target shooting, while at the same time poking fun at the gun nuts out there.

One thing I did notice, was that the promo's for the show, had Bobby pointing his gun at the crowd behind him, with Peggy and Chalene ducking for cover. Yet that scene never happened in the show, least wise that I noticed. Interesting. Any thoughts?

So, that's two good reasons to keep guns. Any more? (Well, to overthrow the government in time of tyranny. But that kind of goes without saying)

But 50% of the population owns guns. Do 50% of the characters on TV own guns? (A confession -- I have never owned a gun. Most of my girlfriends have, though. None of them hunted;one is a vegetarian. They just know the truth of the old saying:Sam Colt made all men equal.)

Mmmm...Bambi.
