The last episode of the 2nd season is called, "Propane Boom". Maybe this is a hint of why the Hills and possibly their friends are moving to California.

They kind of left this open ended. I think maybe they did that on purpose to see what kind of feedback they'd get before going thru with the "move".

The Megalomart blew up, so maybe Strickland Propane will be back in business.
