How did Hank end up with such a rude, sexist, abusive, selfish, inconsiderate jerk for a father?

My theory is that Cotton is still angry that the Japanese blew his shins off in World War II.

Which begs the question; how did Hank turn out so good? Maybe he takes after his mother. Or some say that when kids grow up they will be just the opposite of the parent they do not wish to take after.

I'm still waiting for an episode where Cotton gets a visit from an old war buddy...Tom Anderson...and Tillie reveals that Anderson, not Cotton, is Hank's father, which explains why Hank and Tom sound alike...

Jessi; I think Cotton is a good example of the way men were brought up in his time.He is expressing himself the way he was taught to.He beleives he is better than everyone else,like alot of "white" men his age do.I have met plenty of Cotton's in my time.He is a bit over the top,(ok,WAY over the top) but not too far from the truth.Just my thoughts on it. I agree with Arch's theory of opposites.I know my brother is nothing like our dad,bald spot and schnoz not included.

Groan has raised the Tom Anderson paternity question.........either there IS a connection between Tom and Hank, or the unmistakable resemblance is just one more "Who's Daddy?" joke played on us by the wacky gang at KOTH............._IS_ Ol' Tom Hank's father? _IS_ John Redcorn Joseph's pappy? _IS_ Bill Bobby's sire? _IS_ this Arlen, or friggin' Peyton Place, fer Pete's sake?! Wouldn't it be funny if it turns out that NOBODY in the show knows who their real father is? Well, no, not really.........that'd just be sick, and not in the good way...............the problem is, cartoon paternity is practically impossible to establish beyond a doubt...no DNA! I used to hate Cotton completely, although he did act honorably (as much so as is possible for Cotton anyway) in the episode where Peggy got fired for spanking a kid. I was actually proud of Cotton for helping Peggy get her job back. I suppose even people like Cotton do have some redeeming qualities...

I find it funny that most people are enamored with Boomhauer or Hank. My favorite character, who doesn't appear often enough, is Cotton, Hank's dad. I think he's absolutely hilarious!! Except for knowing that the guy who does his voice also does Kahn's voice, I don't know much about him. Does anyone have any wav files with him speaking, or any pictures of him? Cotton rocks!
