I have seen some of the people in that thread before when they came crashing into another group I frequented. Within a short time of their arrival, the group was little more than repeated trolling and flame wars. Last time I checked back, many of our old regulars hadn't come back and our discussion group is gone.

If you do anything, except ignore them, they will suck you into a flame war. They'll try to erode alt.tv.futurama into a board used primarily for their amusement.

It is quite likely that they are amongst the people that reported you. What better way to break up a group than get members to fight each other? I reported the general intrusion to all concerned parties. If you are (and I know you are) a regular here, don't worry about it. If it becomes an issue, I will gladly e-mail your ISP and inform them that you are regular contributor who replied, not an instigator of any trouble. Hopefully, the gate crashers will become bored and go away.

He is probably one of them... the message I recieved from my ISP said "many" complaints, but Larry explained that it was a misconception, and everything has been dealt with. He even sent a message to the techies withdrawing his complaint, so "don't worray 'bout it"

alt.config said that alt.tv.simpsons was getting itself into trouble with some people trolling through and it looked like alt.tv.futurama was getting pulled into it, apparently it started at alt.tv.southpark. I can assure you that no trolls reported Spectre to his ISP, more like everyone that was in that thread got reported by some *well-meaning* netcop that most likely claimed crossposted Spam Floods.

Yah, I dont know why people think it's their responsibility to limit free speech, but lets just let it go. The situation was corrected. (They're watching us... sushhhhh)

Sooner or later, everyone who considers the Usenet a valuable resource will call for some limits. Perhaps when there are 100 very rude, off topic or binary posts in your favorite group per day, you will. If not how about 1000? As a advocate of free speech, I react equally to post I agree with and the ones I don't. Usenet is divided into topics and each group is a semi-private place with a set of rules. The posting of advertisements, binaries, off topic issues, adult material etc, may be restricted by the groups charter. Although none of these things are, or should be, limited on the Usenet as a whole.

If any group is denied the right to have their own board based on content, that would violate free speech and I would be outraged. Even if they are totally wrong, like Hanson fans or The Satanist Lawn and Garden Club. But, does that mean they have the right to use any other group to discuss the proper use of human sacrifice to grow better azaleas, or the music of Hanson? I don't think so! Still, some discussion of either topic would have to be tolerated here since both Hanson and Satan have been represented on Futurama.

Free speech and all it implies is not only one of our most important rights, it is an equally important responsibility.
