However, because of football, those of you in the Eastern and Central
time zones who get a 4:05 Eastern game (Washington at Jacksonville
or Seattle at Arizona - of course, if one ends before the other, Fox
will switch to the one in progress) will probably get this episode
"already in progress", assuming the game doesn't run so long that
they tell the stations to air it another time (like, say, 12:30 AM).
The following cities don't get a choice:

Hehe it's good isn't it that finally the tables have turned, and those of us in the rest of the world can see the episode at the same time as, or even earlier than, the Americans themselves :-)

But back then most of us didn't have a "real" internet connection.

Since the satellite foot print covers most of North America, anyone in the US, Canada or Mexico who has a C-band system and knows the location has already had the chance to see it.

Besides, we had to wait two years or more for new Red Dwarf episodes. Even then they were often marginal quality bootleg tapes recorded from BBC and converted to NTSC. Since no one had capture cards back then and internet access was 28.8K (if you were lucky) downloads weren't an option. I was ready to buy a PAL TV/VCR combo, with a power converter from England just so I could watch imported tapes.

I do think it great that we can see it the same weekend and all talk about it together. Going to the Red Dwarf boards and saying "How about that episode you saw two years ago?" wasn't fun.

Oh, I know. But it's not until recently that people have been releasing these preairs, or at least I've only recently become aware of it.

It's a shame the TV companies don't use this fact to arrange almost simultaneous worldwide broadcasts - after all, at the moment the choice for me is: (a) download commercial-free episode, watch it (b) wait 1-2 years for it to be aired on TV in this country However, if the choice was (a) download it (b) watch it on TV today

then a lot more people would simply opt for (b), not bother with the downloading, and therefore in theory make the TV companies more money by seeing their adverts and so forth.

I'm glad in Holland we always use subtitling. We only dub kiddy shows because they can't read that fast. Nothing better than the original voices and pun.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but pretty much everyone in the Netherlands speaks English fluently, right? In fact, I've heard the phrase "You speak English almost as well as the Dutch...."

Well not everyone, but most people yes. Problem is that there are not a lot of people here who like to watch shows and movies without subtitles. Lots of people understand English, but are simply used to subtitles I guess. There are also people who speak some English, but are not fast enought to understand a movie without subtitles. I prefer no subtitles, but I don't expect the subtitles to disappear on Dutch television. Luckily with DVD I can watch everything without subtitles. Well unless I watch an Asian movie, but I'm working on my Japanese. :)

Ah, good point. However, that wouldn't apply to the UK, Australia and other native English speaking countries, so my point still stands ;-)

Yep I'm in Holland too :) Cool that Holland was in the episode... "Windmills do not work that way!" :D
