As far as I'm concerned tonight's episode was about the funniest I've seen so far. I about fell over with laughter when Farnsworth mentioned the pile of discarded AOL disks on the "trashteroid."
Also I noticed that for once Fry seemed like a regular joe. True, his unique idea for a solution to the impending doom facing New New York made it clear that, yes, he was using his brain and at the same time he wasn't, but I was glad to see that he wasn't an asshole about it. Other things I liked about the episode were the news clips that were broadcast out of L.A. Again I doubled over with laughter when I heard the line, "Cat's give me gas."
A few things I noticed were that there were some inconsistencies in regards to time. NNY had 72 hours until zero-hour, but somehow the entire city managed to amass enough garbage to send up at the trashteroid on almost no time at all. The original trash ball took DECADES to develop, didn't it?
I chuckled at the post-educational video Farnsworth found on the 'net when the female scientist turned the whole thing into the beginnings of a porno. It really gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "for educational purposes only." =D
Did anyone notice that during the press conference where Fry was urging people to litter that Bender was pulling out bottle after bottle of beer? Someone should update the list of things he's pulled out of his chest and include those!
Other things that I found amusing: Smacking the fish in the head with a rolled-up newspaper as punishment. The fact that Uranus' name got changed to "Urectum." The Mayor "taking action" by having his secretary cancel his maid's visit. "This picture of your wife? Complete garbage." wasn't taken offensively but the Mayor, which might lead one to believe that the Mayor might agree... in a completely different way. Wormstrom's interns were also shaking their fists when he vowed revenge "even if it takes me ANOTHER hundred years!" Bender was referred to as "Mr. Bender" in the opening sequence.
And this is just a side note, but did anyone notice that in the post that had the synopsis and review the eipsode was given the grade of "A-" just like Wormstrom's report back in the 2900's? Was that on purpose or simply coincidence?
My overall impression of the show is that things are definitely back on the upswing.
