FOX isn't stupid. They understand there are far more football fans in this country than there are Futurama fans. They also recognize that they will still be competing for pro football contracts for many years after Futurama is dead and buried. Finally, they understand their obligations concerning the contracts they signed with the NFL.
Vent your spleen if you must, but don't ever expect anything to change.
Plus, that futurama episode will be seen as reruns for eternity.

Football games make for poor TV period in my opinion. If Tivo could fix this problem, I'd jump on it in a nanosecond.

Yes. And I countered with a network that regularly reruns great ballgames. They're just as good, if not better the 2nd time around, because you remember the drama as it unfolds. They made last week's Oklahoma-Nebraska game an 'instand classic' and aired it just a few days later. What an ass kicking! I had missed the 2nd quarter the first time around because I clicked over to the NC-Pittsburgh game, so I got to catch it again.

I am a Broncos fan, and that was as sweet as can be. But what the hell is Fox doing showing that game? The Jets and the Broncos are both in the AFC. Fox shows the NFC games. CBS shows the AFC games in the other 200 markets in the country. How did an AFC game end up on Fox in your neck of the woods?

Beats me. I don't know who was playing the game. I only saw part of it because it was on during Futurama's time slot. When I saw there was about 5 minutes left, I watched something else for 5 minutes. I fully expected that they would show Futurama in it's entirety at the end of the game. After all, nobody would be stupid enough to cut the first 20 minutes off of a season premiere of ANY show.

There's the electricity, antenna wire and a few other things too trivial to mention. The main thing is that the airwaves (bandwidth, frequency, channels or whatever you want to call it) are a public commodity and they are 'leased' to stations. They also have to agree to certain rules set by the FCC.
There is no FCC regulation that forces stations to run Futurama in it's entirety, but damn it there should be!!!
No it's not free at all. The sponsors pay good money for it. I can't say your car is free just because I didn't pay for it. Of course, I have no right to complain about your car and neither does Conan. Oddly, by act of congress, Dave does have the right to complain about your car.
The whole TV business model is the reverse of what most people think. The "Product" is not shows or entertainment and we are not customers. We, TV viewers, are the product and our attention is being sold to sponsors.
Telling Fox that we're not happy about the show being cut will do a little good, telling the sponsors would do more, but only if a large number of people write in. Snail mail letters still carry more weight than e-mail or online petitions.
Personally, I've never been a sports fan and I'm glad that in my time zone Futurama is rarely pre-empted. I would like to see Fox schedule a some re-runs or TBAs that can be canceled to allow Futurama, The Simpsons, King of the Hill etc to run completely after games.

I can't speak for that one. I could care less about Heidi or the football game.
They took that chance when they underestimated the time for the game. That's not my fault. They said Futurama would be on at 7:00 Central time, and therefore it should be, barring technical difficulties.
Then why don't they show Futurama on ESPN. At least show it somewhere where it won;t be interrupted by a stupdi football game.

Actually, it's on from 12:00 until after the 4:15 game ends, then again on ESPN at 8:00.
It states that the network will not cut away from the critical closing moments of a football game for the sake of a TV show that will only draw about a quarter of its ratings.
And a football game running long, to a network, is a technical difficulty.
Because a sports network doesn't give a crap about a cartoon. Unless it's a cartoon about sports, anyway.
Football is going to happen, week in and week out, every Sunday during the season for the foreseeable future. 7:00PM shows come and go, football remains. Maybe Futurama should be moved to 3:00AM so as to reduce the liklihood of anything interrupting it.

Which is more useful to the network? Right, no contest. Football draws millions more viewers than Futurama. Which is more useful from a viewership standpoint? Right again, and again, no contest.
Perhaps it's time for you to attack a slightly less fortified opponent than the NFL.
Or perhaps it's time to switch to a show who's network gives a crap about it.

If tFOX is going to go out of their way to insure the show will not be successful, I don't see a problem with fans who do get to see it posting for those who don't.
