Futurama lacks focus

Futurama has all the traits of a show made by someone who is dividing their energy. The show is superficially good but lacks continuity. First Lela and Fry are on the brink of romance, than they cant stand each other. First Bender needs alcohol to function (remember the episode when he stops drinking, and behaves much like an alcoholic), then he gives up alcohol along with electricity, which is the robot equivalant of drugs. I saw this with NYPD Blue when Steven Bochco started Brooklyn South. Or with Nash Bridges, who's producer, Carlton Cuse, also does Marshal Law. I wonder if Matt Groening was testing the waters with Futurama, and was thinking of calling it quits with The Simpsons.

As far as the series lacking focus, methinks you ought to give it some time to develop. It seems to me that with a lot of series' they start out weak but get stronger and stronger as it develops an audience and such. After only a handful of episodes, its difficult to judge a show on continuity, imho. I think its on the right track, anyways.

I think he needs to. I mean...10 years, 200+ episodes...I love the Simpsons, and it's always fresh and creative, but time is time. There's enough for it to rerun and let you forget to the point where every episode seems new. I'd hate to see it end up like Peanuts...stale and boring.
