It is estimated that around the time of Julias Caeser, the world population was about 1 million. Today, there are over 1 million people in New York City alone.
By the year 3000, the world population should be in the trillions; possibly jillions. It's amazing that Fry was able to get an apartment-sized closet.
Of course, it's possible that most of the world's population was destroyed in either of the two alien invasions.

Anyway, I'm sure there are a lot of people in the Year 3000. If you look at the streets on Futurama, they're pretty crowded, and Fry did have a heck of a time finding an apartment.

Actually, I think the concept of a "Suicide Booth" first shows up in a story in Robert Chambers classic book of horror, "The King in Yellow", which came out about the turn of the century.
Actually, by 2040, our nation will reach zero population growth. That means the amount of people born and that come here will equal people who die.

In all seriousness, the population might never exceed 100 billion as the standards of living gradually rise around the planet, and women are eventually equal to men in rights and status.
Also, someone suggested that portions of the population might be moved to the moon or other planets. This wouldn't make more than a tiny dent in the Earth's population. We would have to move 90,000,000 people off of the Earth every year just to keep the population from growing.
