i forget if this was common in seasons 1 and 2, but parts of the season 3 episode commentaries have some periods of silence in them (That's Lobstertainment for example has about 90 seconds of nobody talking for a period of the show). just seems suspicious since i got the FG DVD which also has VERY censored commentaries.
I just have Season 1, but I've noticed some pretty long periods of silence there too. I'm not sure I'd attribute them to censorship, though. For at least some of them, it seems like the commentators haven't seen the episodes in a long time and are getting caught up in watching.
I was listening to the commmentry on season 3 yesterday, and I know what you mean. I had to put the commentry subtitles on one of the episodes as I didn't understand it well. I didn't hear Dimaggio say "shit" very well in one of the commentries, but it came up on the subs.

Family Guy wasn't censored. They swear like sailors on the few commentaries that there are in the FG set, its just that they don't always have something to say about every scene.
not that kind of censoring. on some occasions they would tell a story about someone or about FOX, but weren't permitted to, so FOX ended up removing the dialogue, resulting in extended periods of silence.
Well I don't know where you obtained your series 3 set from, but in the UK all video and DVD must be submitted to the British Board of Film Classification.
Anything the would bump up the set as a whole to a higher classification, does so. That is, everything is considered to be part of the set, including commentaries.
If the episode is rated 'PG' or '12' then the commentaries mustn't be too explicit.
If a commentary is rated '18' then the WHOLE SET is considered to be an 18.
But then...that applies to my UK boxset, I dunno where you got yours from ;)
