Perceptron

I was just rereading Stanislaw Lem's story "Professor A. Donda" and noticed a mention of "perceptron", which, in that story, is a robot designed for recognition of geometrical shapes.

I wonder Dr. Perceptron of HAL institute (R.I.P) is of any relation. Quite possibly, as David S. Cohen mentioned Stanislaw Lem as one of his inspirations in writing for Futurama. BTW, there's also a Calculon in another of Lem's stories.

Well, it also seems that HAL Institute points to HAL of Arthur C. Clark's 2001 who actually stated in several interviews that this is NO hint at IBM (add one letter to each) and that he would have chosen another name in case he'd realized it...
