Anyways in this episode it was discovered that Fry's nephew is also named Phillip and had a great many accomplishments. The Professor is a direct decendent of him ,so wouldn't he on know this before hand? it really doesn't make sense to me, I hope a writer got fired for this one.

Yeah, well, The Professor is a senile old fool anyway. He didn't even recognise Bender once (quote not 100% accurate):
