excellent - this shoud help to decode this alien language, that, as far as I know, has been decoded yet. (just one of the at least three has been decoded AFAIK.)

Actually, this is pretty strange.

FYI - pontifex means "bishop" not pope. assumption #1 - the alien text also reads "Crocodylus pontifex" assumption #2 - there is a one-to-one mapping between the alien symbols and the latin letters. Note: The alien "words" have the same number of symbols as the latin text has letters. problem #1 - crocodile in latin is "crocodilus" with an I not a Y (not crocodylus)... problem #2 - You would expect the first and fourth symbols to be the same (both "c"). They are not. This might be explained that one is uppercase and therefore different. problem #3 - You would expect the 3rd and 5th to be the same - both "o". But no matter which way you read it, the 3rd and 5th symbols are not the same.

alternitave explanation: perhaps the symbols are gutteral, and do not map one-to-one to the latin symbols. In other words, there are symbols that represent sounds. The first two syllables in crocodile sound slightly different from one another, so perhaps there are two different vowels in play in the alien language...

well, they used latin at the top. Maybe the alien language uses some form of pig-latin? The letters are scewed a bit? Good observations. I am going to hunt for more occurances and see what I can come up with. This is the first time I have looked at this language in detail.

Mike- has the hierglyphics language been cracked too?

BTW there's no hints here so don't try to pick it apart. I already did.

Thanks for the references. I was trying to figure out how I could best watch some 14 hours of futurama in just an hour or two in order to find more references to that language!

any other episodes with FAL2 in them? I've printed out what I've got so far and I'm working on it... its not obvious yet, but don't give me any hints please!

I went back and looked at my three suns. If you can assume that each sign is in a different alien language, then there are 11 plus english, including FAL1 and heiroglyphics. There is no sign of FAL2, but not all of the signs are legible.

Anyway, if anyone thinks of any more references to FAL2 then please let me know! Thanks!

I think I've got the code cracked. It was difficult to say the least. My scheme works for every scenario except there is a problem with the Space Pope seal. I am assuming the text of the Space Pope seal runs from the left side to the right side, and "up" for each symbol is towards the center of the seal. I am also assuming that the seal reads CROCODYLUS PONTIFEX as well. The problem is that I end up with a value of 21 (0-based) for the last character in CROCODYLUS, but also for the second last character in PONTIFEX. Unfortunately they are two difference symbols... also, for it to work, I had to make the assumption that the third character in PONTIFEX was actually the same as the character that looks like an F (11), except that here they just used a dot instead of a line for the second horizontal line from the top in the character.

I missed the internet connection logo - I better go check it out again. Maybe that will shed some light on it.

Anyway, the decoding of the Space Pope text is drivig me mad. It should be CROCODYLUS PONTIFEX, but either its not an S at the end of CROCODYLUS or they messed up PONTIFEX pretty badly. Or the second word isn't PONTIFEX at all... but there are 4 or 5 new symbols so I am not sure yet.

As for the damn Space Pope... CROCODYLU- -------- is 100% for sure, assuming the above is correct.

The last symbol in crocodyus is new (sort of like a T with a curved top). You can assume its value to be 21 if you assume: crocodyluS --------

There are eight more characters, juke like in "PONTIFEX" so that would be a logical assumption. I assume that the calculation continues from the previous symbol, as with the chat room door. (e.g., do not start over.)

The next symbol is new, || followed by known symbol with a value of 24.

If we assume P------- then || is 10 and we end up with PO------. The third symbol is unknown, and looks kinda like an F but with a dot.. If we want an N for the third letter, then the thirs symbol needs to be 11, which already know is the symbol that looks like F. So it this the same symbol? Could be, but I don't think so... this one has a dot not a line in the middle of the F. But let's assume it IS the same symbol.

Now we have PON----- The next symbol is already known to be 4. So now we have PONT---- The next two symnbols are new, and the last two are known to be 24 and 18.

We can assume that the next two unknown symbols are 12 and 17. This gives us: PONTIF--

But the next symbols are known as 24,18. That gives us: PONTIFHU

That leads us to believe that perhaps the second last symbol is 21 and not 24. With 21,18 we would get: PONTIFEX

However, we know that the second last symbol is 24 and not 21. This is shown in [Y]UMMY, in CODEBREAKE[R]S and in CROCOD[Y]LUS.

So something is not right here, unless they made a mistake and the second last symbol was supposed to be another T wuth a curved top (which we assume is 21, if the first word is CROCODYLU[S].)

So perhaps the second word is not Pontifex-- with 4 new symbols is could be something else. There are a total of 5 new symbols introduced in this picture.

That 24 was a typo. At the "Alien Alphabet 2" thread of The Hip Joint, I posted a list of ALL the possible combinations with that symbol being 24, and nothing made sense. And the F symbol actually HAS the dot - I checked my MPEG of "The Day The Earth Stood Stupid" and it really looks like it has the dot to me -- anyone got a full resolution grab of the pilars?

Down here goes the list of all possibilities, knowing that the string is ??-24-11-04-??-??-24-18 and that ?? can only have the following values: 01, 05, 06, 08, 10, 12, 17, 20, 22. As you can see, the "PONT" strings are the only one that looks promising -- and since only ONE symbol is wrong to reach "Pontifex", I say it was indeed a typo.
