Futurama is more consistently funny and entertaining than The Simpsons now. The Simpsons is a classic show, with a greater and more appealing list of characters than Futurama, but it's hey-day was between 1995-1997, I think. Episodes before then were ropey, all episodes after than have been increasingly staid and OTT.

Take yesterday's snow episode in the school - a few chucklesome moments, but it's a sad imitation of the genuine laugh every 5 seconds the show used to produce a few years back. They've exhausted the idea practically, so tend to just rely on Homer being stupid as the main joke. But, much as I think Homer is a comedy classic, they're not writing Homer as well as they used to (was his dream sequence even remotely funny, for example?)

Futurama on the other hand is finding its feet very nicely. The standard of animation completely eclipses The Simpsons (maybe the voice talents of Futurama don't take as much of the budget!) It's also just a much fresher idea and they - literally - have a whole UNIVERSE of characters to play with. True, they don't have a "Homer" iconic character (Bender tries, but it's not quite there yet), but I find Fry and Professor very amusing. Perhaps Futurama's main problem is that its supporting characters aren't very well developed - in fact only Zapp Brannigan and Kif are notably good (and overused to death as a result).

But - as of right now - Futurama p*sses all over Simpsons. So much so that I hope the creators of The Simpsons finish the show and move into "Simpsons: The Movie".

Could this be a unning reference to the book "the hitch hikers guide to the galaxy" (can't remember which of the 4 books). Where they travel ion a bisto which uses Bistromatics to get to places incredibly quickly? Probably not, but still............

Well, the name could refer to it but Ford Prefect did actually use a similar phrase to Brannigan in 'The Restaurant At The End Of The Universe':

Zaphod whistled appreciatively.

Well, this kind of end had to come sooner or later, hadn't it? For me 3 books would have been enough although #4 was a nice love story and also had one of my favourite sentences of all time:

"She was mostly immensely relieved to think that virtually everything that anybody had ever told her was wrong."

I don't think the last book was Adam's fault. I think he was pushed into it by the Publishers.

I believe he had a mental book with it, wanted to throw it out and start again but they wouldn't let him.
