People are more likely to watch a cartoon if it has a sexual theme?
You may be spending too much time online, Mike. Just because some Usenet nutcase requests naked pictures of Leela now and then, that doesn't mean normal humans look towards animation for carnal release.
Dave wrote in message news:[email]...
Indeed they are. I agree with Mike.
Not animation, EVERYTHING. People in general, and especially the majority of the TV watching public, like sex. If a show has sexual content and is advertised as such, it has good chances of getting highr ratings than if the sex wasn't advertised.
I leanred in a psychology class that humans in general have a subtle ongoing obsession with two things: sex and death. I don't know how true that is, but it makes sense, right?
Here's a good example. I've never seen Boston Public, and never cared to. Their commercials for new the new one has been about cheerleaders doing a dance that's controversially too sexy for high school. I can honestly say I'm more tempted to watch that than any of the others in the past. I'm still not going to watch it cause the show still doesn't look like something I'd care to see, but I am more tempted than usual.
People like to see sex. It's that simple.

Agreed--I've only ever seen one episode of Ally McNotFunny. Which one? The one with the girls kissing, of course, because they advertised it in advance! How 'bout you?

I never saw any ads for that, and I've never seen that show, but I must say, I'd probably watch a show with two girls kissing, or at least want to more than usual. I'm a guy, what can I say?

People like to see sex, but people don't necessarily like to see sex everywhere.
Unless I'm clueless and planet Earth is really nothing more than an extension of Faber's Delta House, in which case I'm resigned to stem the tide in a sea of Beavises for the rest of my life.
Here's what [email] told "alt.tv.futurama" on Tue, 23 Jan 2001 14:21:11 GMT on the subject of "Re: WTF? Another ad for 'Amazon Women'":
So? I've seen a website that has got nothing but cartoon figures screwing each other. (Someone recently got fired in the UK for sending his co-workers animated gifs that had the Simpson family members displaying very lewd behavior.) Plenty of respectable comic series have underground bootleg porn versions. Etc.
I read somewhere that human beings will only pay for two things online: pictures of naked people or pictures of dead people. ;-)
Plenty of them do. And as long as they gain revenue, networks will provide for them.

Not to mention the proliferation of hentai sites.
Japan likes its animated tentacle rape.
They also like to send encoded signals in their animations that send our young tikes into blackouts/comas, only to awaken to commit acts of murderous rampage.
They've never forgave us for WW2 and cable tv.
Holdover? And this has changed how? Last I knew, survival of the species was still the primary driving force in life.

In 21st century human life?
Self preservation? Sure. Survival of the species? Nope.
I have to disagree. We are still a gene pool trying to out last all of the others. Disease has taken over as our most voracious predator, but diseases are merely organisms fighting for their existence as well. We may have taken over most of this planet, but who's to say there isn't another form of life out there waiting to take us out and take over our planet? And self preservation is just another way we preserve the species.
In article ,
I remember reading where some scientists think that some strains of virus may in fact be from space. My thinking is that if there are other life forms out there, they are almost certainly nothing at all like us, even to the point of being thousands of times bigger or smaller than us. They would not be any more aware of us than we are of the billions of microorganisms we kill when we spill a soda on the table. If you think about it, the sun could be nothing more than an atom in the body of an extra-terrestrial being. Or an electron orbiting the nucleus in an atom in your body could be an entire planet of a different scale.
It wasn't so long ago that scientists believed that the atom was the smallest particle of matter. Years later they found that atoms were made of neutrons, electrons, and protons. Then they found that these are made up of smaller particles, which they gave some really stupid names to, like gluons. By now, they have probably identified even smaller particles of matter.
If there is ever an invading army from another planet, chances are the whole army could be eaten by a small dog. Alternatively, they could be so large that even one of them would not fit on our planet.

Hehe, Douglas Adams rules!
For thousands more years the mighty ships tore across the empty wastes of space and finally dived screaming on to the first planet they came across - which happened to be the Earth - where due to a terrible miscalculation of scale the entire battle fleet was accidentally swallowed by a small dog.

Aha! Mr. Tomko's busted for not citing his source.
Who's to say that human reproduction and the species' self-preservation are analogous in every way? Isn't overpopulation a big issue? Maybe you could say that the instinct, specifically, is to be attracted GOOD sex, i.e. an attractive cheerleader whose genes might improve the condition of the species. *tongue in cheek...* Since Futurama is animated -- and a comedy, at that -- it might hold sex appeal for different reasons. People don't necessarily want to see the episode for their own sexual pleasure [*], but jokes about it are a real crowd-pleaser, among people of every age. If you don't agree with THAT, then you're nuts.
[*] Personally, I'm not turned on by gratuitous lobster sex. Notice "Why Must I Be a Crustacean in Love?" wasn't held specifically for sweeps [**].
[**] ... or was it?

What is your explaination for Medicare, Aid for third world countries, and other programs like that which sve thousands of people?
Seems to me like plenty of people want to preserve people other than themselves.

But it's sex. I believe my argument is now just as powerful as the one you just made. I will step it up a notch though:
Sex is more or less the height of pleasure in a human existence, and it can happen many many times. Sex is something that all living things have a drive for, no matter what.
Those are two pretty good reasons why sex in cartoons is still attractive to people.
You don't really believe that do you? People are just as obsessed with Sex and death as they always were. In fact, I'd say death is more of an obsession than a fear nowadays, because people are smart enough to figure out how the world works for the most part. We know that force times mass equals acceleration, we know that there's no air to breathe in space, but NOBODY knows beyond a shadow of a doubt what happens when you die. I think that makes it something to obsess over.
But you're missing the point. It's sexuality. I admit live action sex may be more attractive to the vast majority than cartoon sex, but cartoon sex is still attractive to many people.
TV seems like a pretty decent place to put sex nowadays. Everybody's doing it. Regardless of where people like to see sex or not, the *still* like to see sex.
There are times when the Delta house looks like a perfect likeness of the world to me. Saddening.

I'm not being sarcastic. I really do feel bad about that. My papa's a Planetary physicist and he brought my brothers and I up on nothing but physics. I feel ashamed having hastily typed and not got something as simple as Newton's second right.
Thanks for pointing that out Mike, really. I won't type so fast when it comes to references to physics again.

Seriously, I'd rather have some tits on magazines as you can see here in Germany than black bars over them as I saw in the USA. Nevertheless I do not need to see sex in cartoons...

You say that is you're asking for help believing it.
Bad books, WTF would anyone wanna live there?, and lastly...WTF are they thinking?
But it's only fun because if it wasn't, people wouldn't have the irresistable urge to do it and the species would soon be in peril.
Let's hear it for evolution!
You got the wrong magazines. I've never seen black bars on American pornography.
Neither do I.
