Is Futurama dead?

Now that the season finale has been shown earlier than usual. Also, all those rumors about FOX cancelling it sort to seem to ring true. I have a feeling that Futurama might be coming back in 8 months or simply just move to another station since all FOX wants to show are crap sit-coms about smart-allecky kids who act mature than their socially gullible parents.

Anyone else feel this way, too? I guess people are too used to seeing Matt Groening do The Simpsons, and it's like that's all he's known for.

Not to sound pretentious, but I think (and this is just an opinion) Futurama requires a certain amount of intelligence and pop-culture sensibility to find funny, which a lot of people just don't get.

That's not to say that the Simpsons didn't used to be the same way (I can't speak for current seasons because I've pretty much abandoned the show), but it had more overtly funny jokes, whereas Futurama seems to be more clever and subtle, using more visual gags and speech gags (the way characters say things, as opposed to what they say).

A quick example in the last episode, I found Melllvar's frustrated outbursts and Welshy's Welsh greeting to be pretty funny in themselves.

They probably chopped it early so they would have enough shows left over another short season next year.
