My Two Cents

Okay here is how I see futurama's popularity with characters: it's going to be like The Simpsons.

Everyone who's anyone will agree that when the Simpsons started out, Bart was going to be the star and main attraction, but 10 years later, Homer has taken the show by storm.

Now by no way am I saying that Homer is liked by everyone, but when one says 'The Simpsons', we are instantly reminded of Homer Simpson before any other character.

So I believe this show starts out with us liking Fry, but Bender will take the higher popularity stand as the show progresses. Besides, this is new humor. When was the last time you seen one of the Simpson Episodes from season 1? Do you now remember why that was your last time?

Has it really been ten years? Wow, I was in middle school when the Simpson's started. Man do I feel old now. Am i correct in saying that the Simpson's is the longest running animated series? (Still coming out with new episodes I mean). I have high hopes that futurama will do just as well as our 21st century cultural phenomenon that the simpsons has been for the end of this century. if you don't agree then you can bite my shiny metal ass! That's a good point...BUT, watching the real old ones now I don't think they're that funny, although back in the day I loved them. I don't feel that way with this show...BUT, I hope I have to eat all of my previous words and bow to Futurama someday. cas

I remember the original bits from the Tracey Ullman show! And I was in (ulp) college. And I also remember thinking "Cool! This is by that guy who does Life in Hell!"

And yes, the first-season Simpsons are barely recognizeable now...but I think Groening and his crew have a better handle on the whole animation thing, so there probably won't be so much change in Futurama.

Longest running animated show EVER. Still running or not. The Flintsones used to have the record, but it was surpassed at least a season ago.

I don't think that's possible to be honest... I mean, Futurama is similar in concept and humour to the Simpsons... They've used 10 seasons worth of gags in the Simpsons and the shows starting to get tired... But I don't see them being able to come up with another 10 series worth for Futurama... And to be honest, I haven't been that impressed with the humour in it as of yet anyway. Sure, the animation rocks, but I mean, like Episodes 5, 6 and 7 have all been a bit hit and miss... not particuarly funny... a bit pointless at times....... If it wasn't for Dr Zoidberg "Fishful of Dollars" could have totally disuaded me from watching the show... fortunately 7 was a little better, but not as good as Episodes 1, 2, and 4. Maybe they'll find their niche soon...

And who is everyone's favourite character?? This has probably been overdone, but I thing Dr Zoidberg has to be the classiest character in a cartoon yet... heh.

Episode 3 was hilarious, too ("I don't know if we want to pay for a dimension we're not going to use...").

As for a favorite character, it used to be Fry, but now it's sort of shifted over to Leela since Fry seems to be getting stupider every episode.

The Simpsons has also had the most guest stars 'in prime time' ever, or so they said on Guienness Records.

But we're getting off the subject, this is the Futurama newsgroup, not the simpsons one, but what the hell we always get off the subject sooner or later....

Last time I saw a season one Simpsons? I think it was a few weeks ago. I've taped a lot of the episodes, and sometimes a few friends and I sit down to watch them. :)

I agree, Fry is the main character now, but by far Bander is going to take the show by storm.

How many do you have? Don't mean to brag, but I have 12 tapes with 17 episodes on each. But they say it's only bragging if you don't have a reason, SO if anyone would like to get some Simpson episodes (or Futurama episodes for that matter) email me and we'll work something out.
