Poll: Did Seymour die or sleep?

Here's a poll for you:

Did Seymour die or sleep at the end of the episode. After all, 15 is pretty old for a dog, I'm inclined to believe he died - since that is a more romantic notion (he died waiting for his master to return), but, of course, that's the sadder option. However, the fossilized Seymour is standing up.

Actually, the more interesting question is: HOW IN GOD'S NAME DID HE BECOME FOSSILIZED? Did he wander into New York's famous tar pits (that is, Shea Stadium)?

Woah take it easy... I didn't want to pick a fight or anything... I just think it's a bit much that everybody here is talking about wether or not Seymore died at the end. What's the difference? If he didn't die in that last scene, he died shortly afterwarts. And ok... the instant fossilization was not explained in the episode... but I just don't get what the big deal is... It was a great episode... why discuss these uninteresting minor, minor details?

Anyway... sure you can discuss it... if you INSIST ;)

How about this... He fell asleep in that last scene... He almost dies... But then someone throws some molten dolomite (was it?) over him by accident... With his last strength he jumps on all four legs... But it is too late... He has past on and has been instantly fossilized... The End :)

Well, a quick Google search said that no one *really* knows how dolomite is formed. It's a sedimentary rock, but there are no examples of it being formed today. The best guess is that it is a sedimentation that we do know about, but one that undergoes some unknown chemical reaction over time, so we don't really know the full process.

In other words, it's a McGuffin.
