Was there ever any mention of the Professor's "son" Cuthbert who was in one episode and had suddenly vanished by the next? Seemed a bit odd really that he should go without a word...

He was in "Anthology of Interest" for a couple of seconds, then murdered by Leela.

Cuthbert? Isn't that a god in D&D's Greyhawk setting? ;) If you mean Cubert, i think his last appearence was in Futurama Comic 4, but he will be back as a side-character in season 4.
