Did anyone notice the alien with the Austin esque 3:16 sign behind HomeBlern at the Blernvall game?
3:16
You're obviously not a sports fan - the "3:16" was ripped off by Blernvall and "Stone Cold" from the "John 3:16" signs, most notably seen at baseball games.
Has society become so secular that people associate 3:16 with professional wrestling, rather than John 3:16 from the bible?
(Early 80's... baseball games... John 3:16 signs everywhere...)
...or are you just too young to remember?
The Austin 3:16 T-shirts and signs have been around for some time. But yes, I believe that it is almost saccreligous in one way.

_Almost_ sacrilegious? When some behemoth wrestler decides that he's going to substitute HIS name for the name of a book of the Bible, because he apparantly rates himself right up there with the Man Upstairs... I'd call that completely sacrilegious, as well as disgusting, revolting, etc...

I'd just as soon HAVE it associated with professional wrestling, rather than for that instruction manual for ignorance.

How sacrilegious is it to refer to your god as "The Man Upstairs?" Just curious, is all,
As George Carlin says, giving your 'supreme being' a euphemistic title
like "the guy who lives in the clouds" helps keep an abstract concept
like 'god' on a human's mental level.

Holy Zarquon's singing fish! You're such a young 'un, you probably don't think of "The Six Million Dollar Man" first when you hear the name Steve Austin (a man barely alive), like I do. Sheesh! ;)
You also missed out on the heyday of Mr. T, Boy George, and the USFL (what were the names of those teams, again?). Man, that was livin'!
These kids today, tpe

Not only Mr. T, but the 'Mr. T and the All-Stars' cartoon! Culture Club? What the hell is a 'Karma Chameleon'?! USFL... is that with Orlando Storm, Montreal Machine... or was that the World League?

John 3:16
For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life
Steve Austin, the wrestler, stole his name from the Lee Majors character in "The Six Million Dollar Man" and he swiped the biblical reference from Rollen Stewart, the "rainbow wig guy". The reason Stewart used a "John 3:16" sign wasn't specifically to get people to read that one passage, but to get people to open their bibles in the first place. he figured once people took out their bibles, blew the dust off of them and opened them up, they might just continue reading, and who knows where that could lead?
Stewart is currently serving life in prison, so it didn't lead him very
far.

Before Steve Austin, the infamous 'John 3:16' signs were a mainstay in almost all stadium sports. There was an unwritten rule that there had to be ONE guy, half-naked, wearing a rainbow wig, holding the sign.

OK Now the wig makes sense. But I still don't get the Pitcher riding a giant tarantula out of the bullpen.
In the good old days of baseball (circa the 1970's) relief pitchers used
to ride in from the outfield bullpens in little golf carts all done up
in team colors. The Mets' relief pitcher cart was shaped like a huge
baseball.
