Apologies if this has been asked a million times already, but I have to ask; I take it that the conventional view is that Leela's full name (Turanga Leela) is expressed backwards; that is, family name first. My question is this; where exactly is this extablished in the series? After "Leela's Homeworld" ? Or is it that 'Turanga' is her first name? Sorry, but I'm a bit confused.

If you think about it, it doesn't make sense that her parents have the same name as her. Leela was an orphan, and her parents left no note as to her name. The orphanage must've made up her name then.
But then, why are we thinking about it?

You're right, she had a nametag when she was found at the doorstep, as seen in Leelas Homeworld.

I believe the first time we hear Leela's first name (Turanga) is during "The Problem With Popplers", in Season 2. We also see it written down as Leela, T (if my memory serves me correctly) at the end of her hospital bed in The Cyber House Rules.
Also, Fry is Philip J Fry's surname, so he is in the same position. Ditto with Farnsworth and Wernstrum.
