I'm pretty sure that's what the Professor was using during the mission briefing. I guess this means the crew actually will use the What-If machine now. And, I may be reaching here, but in an episode called "Anthology of Interest 2".
Finglonger?

Could be. But remember he introduced the Finglonger and the What-If machine at the same time. Perhaps instead, having seen the What-If he went ahead and made it. And the crew will discover the What-If machine in a totally unrelated activity that does not include the Finglonger.

That's not so. Remember, what we saw in AoI was what *would* have happened had he invented the Finglonger. His "what if" involved inadvertently pointing out the What-if machine with the finglonger, which did *not* happen in AoI. It's also possible the professor's what if isn't valid anymore, since he must have invented the finglonger after his what if. Who knows, maybe that's when he decided to go for it after all.
So in part II, he can actually invent the finglonger. Then they can just paste in the rest of the episode from part I. It will be Futurama's first clip show. One long clip of AoI part I.
Why not? If he went ahead and invented the finglonger, than the rest of the episode would really happen. If he doesn't invent the finglonger, then the rest of the crew will have to discover the What If? machine another way in part II. Now if that happens, that would definitely invalidate the professor's What If?.

Just a really quick note... It's called the THINGLONGER. As far as it's existence in the pretext of a cartoon reality... once the prof has dreamed, he MUST go on to invent it since we see it on Bird-bot of Icecatraz. The what-if already exists, nuff said. MBJ

No it's not.
Oh, I didn't know it was in there. Then I guess the pump is primed for AoI II.

The Professor used it during the crew briefing.

No it's the Finglonger I'm afraid.

The Thinglonger is used for a COMPLETELY different purpose...

Ok, now THAT was funny. But not necessarily accurate.
Who cares? The episode had one of the best damn funniest endings in TV I've probably ever seen.

No, it's called the Finglonger.
That's what life would be like if he HAD invented the Finglonger. The Professor was lamenting the fact that he'll now have to settle for inventing it AFTER the fact, at which point he's already missed his chance for life to turn out exactly as it did in the What-If universe. Perhaps in real life the crew was not as impressed with his presentation of the What-If machine without the Finglonger to go along with it, and he didn't get any applause. That's why he's sad.
So, THAT'S what life would be like if I had invented the Postdumber.
