It also refers to the process of (re)finishing a new(er) piece of furniture so it looks like an antique -- not to pass it off fraudulently as an antique, but because it's cheaper than getting a real antique, and some people enjoy doing it as a home project. Generally involves whacking it with a chain and applying a dark stain to the wood.

Of course, in Futurama's time, there's probably no shortage of genuine antiques.

Well I was led to believe Fry's 20th Century theme apartment in "A Fishfull Of Dollars" (1ACV06) was rather expensive. And since Leela and Amy were so confounded by the 20th century antiques I would think stuff from that time would be fairly hard to come by. Just like stuff from 1000 years ago are now.
