I was giving this some thought. Fry was threatening to kill himself to make the worm's leave his body or they would face death along with him. But considering the fact that they obviously need to live inside a host body they would be dying by leaving. Meaning that no matter what they choose they would be sealing their fates.
The Worm's Catch 22.

That's a good argument, but the worms were alive on the sandwich before they inhabited Fry (most likely in decreased numbers). I'd imagine they'd select a choice set of worms with which to carry on their race (such as Ted Turner, Hank Aaron, Jeff Foxworthy, the guy who invented Coca Cola, the Magician, and the other socalled Gods of our Legends. Though Gods they were, and also Jane Fonda was there...). Those worms would board another sandwich or piece of food and live until another host happened to eat them.
The majority of their race, however, would probably die either way.

No they were spore in the sandwich. Just like any digestive parasite. The spore then develop in the digestive system of the host. Then the fully developed organism realizes it's own spore that exists the body along with the undigested solid waste from the intestines.

Considering that these worms developed a technological society in just a few days, I thing they could use some sort of escape craft and find another host. The way the worm leader discussed the passage of time, they must not live longer than a few hours or a day at the most.
As helpful as they were to Fry, you'd think he could auction them off on e-bay. I'm certain there would be plenty of people will to pay for their services.

Do they still have e-bay in the 30th century? I thought the internet is only used for porn in the year 3000

That and VR online gaming.
As a hardcore Half Life fan, I loved that part in "A Bicyclops Built for Two"

I haven't tried HalfLife out yet. Were the scenes in Futurama based on it? I'm about due for a new game, I'm on my fourth time through Quake II and I know all the rooms.

I doubt it. That scene was really a collaboration of all of the online games. HL was a part, but Quake and Unreal Tournament and plenty of others were in there too.
HL was game of the year for 1998 and it's still going strong. If you want to buy it, there are about for different packages you can buy. Each has a different combination of these four things:
Original HL - the great SP game and the engine and everything.
Opposing Force - an expansion pack made by Gearbox Software that lets you play the original game from the POV of one of the marines that you actually fight in the original.
Team Fortress Classic - an online only game involving teams of different types of people with different weapons playing deathmatch games like capture the flag.
Counter Strike - a modification to HL that is played only on line. In it people are divided into teams of terrorist and counter-terrorist. Terrorists either have hostages or a bomb to place. CT's (counter-terrorists) must rescue hostages ir kill all terrorists.
Now the best set to buy is the one with JUST original Half Life and Opposing Force. These two games are a ton of fun for SP. THEN, if you get into online play (both of these games feature online DM), you can download Counter Strike. CS started as a mod for download but it got so popular that they released it for retail. It's still available for full download, completely legal. DO NOT buy anything with CS inside, because it's a waste of money. Do get CS though, it's the funnest online game HL has to offer. As for TFC, I never bothered too much with that.
I hope I've given you more than enough information.
Also, if you get on alt.games.half-life, the people there are really cool. I'm a reg there, and we can help you out with any questions you have for a s long as you own the game.

e-bay is used for trading porn in 3000, i could imagine.
The precursor to true, er, bio-nanotechnology?
Forget ebay, try auctioning it off to world governments.

Those would be the most familiar intestinal parasite worm. And a fairly good model for most digestive parasites.

Tapeworms reproduce by dropping off segments. The worms Fry had were more like nematodes, which reproduce by releasing clouds into the digestive tract. But nematodes are not segmented at all and they don't have arms. This is really getting disgusting, hand me the popcorn.

This reminds me of the time I saw a Faces of Death sequel in the theater. The petrochemical derived imitation butter on the jumbo popcorn made me sicker than the movie.

The leader mentioned those in the sandwhiches as the ancestors. Since they weren't parasites, and only labored in Fry's body, I think they had their own food source anyway.
