Plus, most of the jokes probably went over his head.

I just didn't buy it. When Fry made his deal, you would expect Leela to be horrified and object strongly, but she didn't seem to care - I just thought that was really out of character and seemed rather odd. The rest of the episode didn't really have much happening, other than extending the Fry-Leela love story by yet another length.

Still, the intro caption was spot on, and I guess that's that for Futurama then.

Why should she care? It's the future. People probably do stuff like that all the time.

Well, it's not selling his soul or anything like that. The music he makes is in his head, and his hands just can't keep up. The Devil's Hands are just another tool for him to use to express himself, like the holophoner itself. It's still him writing and playing the opera.

And wrapping up the series with an amazingly well-written song in the last act, with lines from all of the major characters (Zoidberg has the best line in the opera: "I can't believe everybody's just ad-libbing!")

I had another idea in mind, but this one works just as well.

I generally agree with this. I enjoyed it, and I'm a fan of musicals, so some of the opera was funny, but I thought it was a little bit weak. Actually, compared to many strong episodes earlier in the season, I thought the last several eps were kind of weak. Oh well, I've still enjoyed the show more than the Simpsons over the past few years, and it's a shame to see it end (if it indeed has ended for good).
