Question about "When Aliens Attack"

I have a question about a joke in this episode. One of the characters says that all videotapes of shows from the twentieth century were destroyed in 2044, during the second coming of Jesus. Some sort of disaster is mentioned as well. I'm not sure what he was getting at. My interpretation is that all television shows were destroyed so Jesus couldn't see the crap we're all watching. Any thoughts?

A second coming would support the idea of Jesus having divine origin. Which itself would imply that he already knows what we're watching.

Well, Fry's Sanford & Son tapes appeared to be nothing but static. The video on magnetic tape degrades faster than the audio.

2404 I think it was. And I find it highly unlikely video tapes would even be an available media in the 30th. More likely everything would have been migrated to another(and another[and another]{and what the heck, another}]) form of media such as DVDs, etc through the ages.

i thought that the second coming of jesus was supposed to be the end of the world what with death and destruction raining down from the heavens, but in the futurama universe the second coming of jesus merely damaged their video tapes. it's a joke. thanks for your time.

If you noticed in the premiere episode when Fry was frozen and you noticed that Earth was destroyed twice. Sure it was Flying Saucers, but who's to say how the end of the world is supposed to end.
