That's how I feel - I've downloaded and watched all the episodes at least twice now - got to be careful otherwise I'll get sick of them, so I've stopped watching them now, but it's tough. I have a craving for more futurama - it's so new and exciting, and the imagination and humour are absolutely terrific. A lot of people watch it quickly, say "Oh, it's not the Simpsons" and stop watching. What a mistake they have made. I like it exactly *because* it's completely different - and unlike The Simpsons where there's not *always* one line where I laugh out loud if I'm on my own, Futurama often makes me crack up. I think the voices really make it as well - the combination of Bender, Leela and all of B West's characters are absolutely first-rate - the contrast between DiMaggio and West's voices is massive - Bender's voice is great - so many lines (it's fun on the bun) just work because of the voice - and what can I say about Zapp and the Professor (Good news everyone!). Absolutely first-class, and I'm trying to get everyone I know to watch it.
Ditto. Like futurama, I think it's the combination of imaginative stories and ideas (and parodied people/shows/events/morales) and excellent humour that make it excellent. I baulk at the thought of all the ideas and funny stories that don't make it into the Simpsons because they write too much better stuff - didn't Groening say that they keep improving/re-writing until it's still funny for *them* after hearing a line 12 times - I think that's the reason why you can often re-watch episodes and still enjoy them greatly - that and the volume of funny content (and background gags).
Yeah - the difference between FG and The Simpsons or Futurama is quite scary. I don't think FG is bad, just average. But Groening's comedies being so good isn't always obvious until you watch something like FG, which isn't a bad show, but clearly is not on the same scale. I'd rather watch one episode of futurama before 10 episodes of FG.
Yeah, I think it's just an average show - far too many shows are bad, so being average is okay.
