Similarity between Ruth Powers and Amy

Who here thinks Amy looks a lot like Ruth Powers from the simpsons. Just change her haircut and she's exactly like Amy!

yes most futurama characters resemble character from the simpsons i have noticed - ie bender and homer, the guy whos good a limbo (hermies i think) and apu... the list goes on.

They're both obsessed with their work, and with cutting costs by any means necessary (e.g. Apu keeping soured milk on the shelves). So Hermes is closer to Apu than anyone else on The Simpsons.

Farnsworth is clearly a mix of Abe (senile), Mr. Burns (crotchety), and Professor Frink.

Your argument is the same as saying MichaelJordan and Wayne Gretzky are the same because they both play sports.

Look at it this way. Both Jordan and Gretzky shared traits that led them to the pinnacles of their respective games. If you want to look past the purely physical (both in the people you're comparing and in the games they play) towards things like work ethic, drive, natural talent, self confidence, etc., you'll see that those two athletes were really more alike than different. Similarly, Hermes shares traits with Apu, more so that with any other Simpsons character.

Although if you want to make a case for another one, I guess it's still open to debate.

I would say that with "obsessive attention to details that really don't matter" being the most outstanding trait of Hermes, his closest match on the Simpsons would be the Comic Book Guy. One could draw similarities between any two people. That doesn't make them parallel characters in different universes.

I didn't think anyone was talking about parallel characters, just similarities.

They're both poor.

Zoidburg is more like Milhouse, no one really likes him. he's a loner and gets excited about going to a movie "with friends"

As I recall, the thread started with a comment that the Futurama characters are the same as Simpsons characters. It then evolved into "which Simpsons characters are most like which Futurama characters". Which is a far more interesting thread.

I think Lisa Simpson is more similar to Leela - they are both down to earth, no nonsense people who do things responsibly and don't want to have to put up with Bart-like people like Fry.

In terms of relationships to the other characters on their respective shows, I'd say Zoidberg is most like Milhouse. Both like to think they're more popular than they are. The other characters, even supposed friends, don't often consider their feelings. They both have a good heart, but their social skills are similarly undeveloped. Think about it.
