Family Guy Kicks Ass

Futurama is okay, but never makes me laugh out loud. Family Guy on the other hand is a constant source of belly-laughs. My friends and I always talk about it the next day. Futurama just comes and goes. Fox should put Family Guy after the Simpsons. It's not quite as good as the Simpsons, but could one day take over the Sunday at 8 time slot.

Futurama isn't ment to be "Hee Haw" funny.

But Fox stepped on it's dick by using "Family Guy" to take on NBC and "Frasier". Even more so by taunting Kelsey Grammer. Plenty of potential "Family Guy" viewers are watching "Frasier" Thursday's at 9:00, and when "Family Guy" eventually fails, look to the arrogance of the time slot change this season as the cause.

It won't be around long enough. I mean, what happens when they run out of other TV shows to parody and other celebrities to make fun of? Or if they don't run out, how long before that gimmick get too old to sustain the show? What will they do, write more Stewie plots into each episode? Please, that's getting stale as quickly as the TV parodies.

That's sort of like putting an episode of the Simpsons, then a really bad episode of the Simpsons in a one-hour slot.

I actually find Futurama MUCH funnier than Family Guy. I laugh out loud maybe 2-3 times a show at Family Guy, 4-6 times at a new Simpsons episode, and probably close to 15 times at Futurama. (much more than that at an old Simpsons episode) I don't even bother to go out of my way to watch Family Guy anymore, but I make sure I always catch Futurama whether it was on Tuesday or Sunday.

Family Guy has a almost horrible and very bad cast of characters with no real potential or funny shtuff about them, wheras Futurama: just take a peek at Fry, Bender, Leela, or Nibbler! You can see some actual work put into them, unlike in Family Guy. The ONLY remotely funny person on Family Guy is Stewie.

Family Guy is a very funny show, but of Fox's three prime time cartoon shows (ie. along with Futurama and King of the Hill), FG is most like the Simpsons ie. another dysfunctional middle class American Family. Therefore they probably won't put right after the Simpsons, not permanently anyway.

I tape Futurama (and King of the Hill and Simpsons) because everyone who hangs around the house will want to watch them again later.

I tape Family Guy because there's always at least one gag per show so unbelieveably pathetic and off the mark that I have to watch it again to believe it made it to the air

I think a Futurama vs. Family Guy debate is similar to a Cable Guy vs. Dumb and Dumber debate. Both are really funny Jim Carrey movies however Dumb and Dumber goes for cheap thrills while Cable Guy develops a plot and real characters. Same goes for Futurama and Family Guy. When I watch Family Guy I couldn't give a poop about the characters. In my opinion the funniest thing in Family Guy will forever be that episode with William Shatner, who isn't even a character on the show. In the end I guess its just a matter of taste. However, the way most people's attention spans are decreasing nowadays I can really appreciate shows that attempt to develop an interesting background to draw from for future hilarity. I'd rather have a deep interesting joke that has been deveoping for several episodes than a quick one that I'll quickly file away in the back of my mind never to be thought of again. Again, its a matter of taste but I know what I'd rather watch on a Sunday night.

I can't find much funny in Futurama though. "This Series Has Landed" is the only thing close to side-splitters.

It's the other way around for me. FG sucks, and is very unfunny and unoriginal. Futurama however is both hilarious and has a great plot. Hopefully Futurama goes on to become the next Simpsons while FG falls into the black hole known as FOX Thursdays.
