I've seen it twice now, jokes about New Jersey.

What is is with New Jersey? Does anyone understand this?

Picking on New Jersey has been an ongoing gag on the Simpsons. Not sure exactly why; It probably has something to do with the fact that the whole state is little more than a landfill for New York.

yep, that's damn right. I've lived in Jersey my whole life, and when I think of our state, its more like sprawling suburbia rather than the refineries and factories by New York. However it should be noted that New Jersey is 2nd in per capita income in the United States.

New York became a center for commerce and the arts and New Jersey became an industrial center. While both have wide open spaces and good place to live etc, when you think of NY, it's the World Trade Center, The Empire State Building, Broadway and so on. For NJ, it's factories and swampland so polluted you're warned not to touch the water.

I live in New England but I had a girlfriend in NJ. The area where she lived was not only beautiful but absolutely LOUSY with deer. I never saw so many deer; whole hereds would literally walk through people's back yards.
The people there were also nicer than what you generally get on the east coast but not as nice as your typical mid-western folks. (I've travelled the whole US for work so I can speak with some authority.)
I've got no use for New York within 25 miles of the City (including the part in NJ in that radius.)
