Ah yes, but if you recall the 138th (?) Episode Spectacular, Troy is actually a real person because he was talking about the Simpson show and still introduced himself as Troy McClure. Also there are numerous minor, insignificant references that point out that they can be intertwined, eg. Bender in the Simpsons, Blinky in Futurama. There are also numerous reasons why it really doesn't matter, because it would be funny to see Troy McClure (his head at least) on Futurama, and as proved by both these shows, continuity is not really important, and nothing worth getting your knickers (SEE: panties) in a twist over.

In contusion, Troy McClure would not have been the host of the min documentary. They would have given him a different name, but Phil Hartman would probably voiced it and he would have been perfect for it.
