In "Fishfull of Dollars", or (wtf), we saw Fry's stuff being repossesed. Didn't he buy that stuff at auction, paying cash? Perhaps they were impounding the stuff to get it off the streets, and he got it back later when he got his old apt back.
I still like the line, "What century is this?", (when he should be able to easily tell by visual clues as to the century..).
Fry didn't invest into anything, all his money was taken from his bank account, and even one day of the kind of lifestyle he was leading when rich was way too expensive, so they must've repossessed some of his stuff to pay the bills. Maybe Mom had to do something with it, she wanted to completely bankrupt him - and did. Not to mention he bought totally useless junk at the auction.
