Clearing things up

Hi everyone,

Huge Futurama fan here. I know this must have been discussed plenty of times in the past, but my newsgroup server doesn't store messages that are very old. There are some things I just need clarified:

First, I understand that The Cartoon Network has picked up Futurama. What does this mean, exactly? I have heard that FOX decided not to order the production of new episodes, but have many in the can at least for another season (and given FOX's track record of pre-empting Futurama, probably more like 2 seasons worth). Now, is The Cartoon Network simply showing new episodes, or are they going to be funding the creation of new episodes for future seasons? If they are funding new episodes, will they be shown on stations other than The Cartoon Network? I live in Canada, and don't receive that channel.

Any clarification for me on this is great.

As you said, FOX has enough episodes in the can to run for another season (though most shows would consider 16 episodes a rather short season). Cartoon Network, on the other hand, simply bought the cable tv rights to all the completed episodes, including those last 16 (though I imagine they wont show those last 16 until Fox has). Basically, CN is showing strictly reruns, no new episodes.

Really. I've heard that the total unaired episodes is up in the 30s-40s.

Nah, I heard it was around 16, about 10 or so NEW episodes set after season 4, then about 6 old unaired shows.
