I just watched the 1983 film "Dr. Detroit" and noticed a similarity between the people who serve Mom, the head of Mom's Limousine Service in Chicago and those who serve Mom, the head of Mom's Friendly Robot Factory (in New New York?). In Dr. Detroit, Mom's henchmen (Johnny, Carson, and Gupter?) wear chauffeur's uniforms. In Futurama Mom's henchmen (Walt, Larry, and Igner) wear similar uniforms. Could someone have been watching Dr. Detroit on late-night TV before drawing Mom's gang?
Is 'Mom' based on the Dr. Detroit character?

Possibly, but their uniforms are identical to those of the impreial officers in the Star Wars Trilogy.
