It's not as funny as "The Simpsons"

It's dazzling, it's high-tech, it's weird...but it's just not as funny as "The Simpsons". It's amusing and clever, but not laugh-out-loud funny. I really hope that it grows out of its awkward stage into something as long-lived and -loved as OFF.

I laughed out loud more times over the first three episodes of "Futurama" than I have in the last fifteen episodes of "The Simpsons". Taste is subjective, I guess.

Hmm...yes. Well, I guess the reason it's not as funny (funny, but not AS funny) as OFF is because it seems, to me, that the humor relies heavily in the standard "fish-out-of-water" type of comedy. I wonder how many times the writers will try to wring a laugh out of Fry experiencing discomfort or astonishment or embarrassment at being proven a twentieth-century rube among his companions. For instance, when he does the countdown in episode two, I believe he gets to eight or nine by the time they get to the moon. Another example is when he keeps getting hit by moving doors in the first episode. Ha, ha, very funny, and I'm sure we'll see many, many jokes just like these in the episodes to come, jokes which rely heavily on making an idiot out of Fry because he's...you guessed it...a "fish out of water".

It's still a good show, but it's not a GREAT show. I'll watch it regularly, just like I casually watch "The PJs" when I'm doing stuff around the house.

Now I'm interested in knowing in particular just what parts you "laughed out loud" at?

Have you seen the third episode yet? I think they've successfully leaped over that particular hurdle. Fry seems to have found quite a little niche for himself already.
