No, Futurama rocks and I'm really enthousiatic with the idea to find it back in less than three weeks.

Would you have prefer that the show started more earlier and stop in a few weeks ?

I'd prefer that whenever the show started it would Not be in a position to be preempted. I won't be seeing Futurama on the 9th and neither will a lot of people on the east coast. So you'll excuse me if I'm not as enthusiastic as you are.

Why ?

It's a little thing called the NFL. The Redskins have a 4:00 start on the 9th, which means residents of the DC area (like me), the season premiere of Futurama will almost certainly be pre-empted in part (like last season) or in whole.

Since the legendary "Heidi" incident, no network has dared to cut short an NFL game to show regularly scheduled programming.

I don't expect to see a new episode of Futurama until late January at the earliest.

The "Heidi" incident was probably before your time. Let's turn back the clock to November 17, 1968.

The N.Y. Jets were leading the Oakland Raiders with only 50 seconds left in the game. NBC decided to cut away from the game so that a special presentation of the children's movie "Heidi" could start as scheduled at 7:00 pm Eastern time. Unfortunately for NBC, the Raiders scored two touchdowns in the last 42 seconds and won the game 43-32. NBC was inundated with telephone calls, letters, and tons of abuse from angry football fans.

This incident showed that professional football had arrived as the most popular sports broadcast in the U.S. Since this incident, regularly scheduled programming has taken a back seat to NFL games. In short, the NFL is the 800-pound gorilla of sports broadcasting. It is number 1 in audience and revenues for the networks, and you don't mess with number 1.

Also the 15-30min of local news sports coverage will typically show you anything interesting. Assuming anything interesting happened.

A lot of people whould probably say similar things about watching half an hour of Futurama, or spending 30 seconds checking this newsgroup.

You think so huh? They practicaly already do it with Direct TV's NFL sunday package. Trust me once TV is digital that will be it. There's too much money in Pay Per View style broadcasting for them to pass it up once it becomes practical. Remember owners want people to go to ball games not watch them for free. Give it some time.

Yes, It is not shown in france too but I have some american slaves who encode the episode to put them on my website to share Futurama with the rest of the world (and especially the french ;-)
