I don't think this episode was as funny as the Slurm Factory. Though there were some great lines.
The opening, "Human rinds" was a take off of the old Fritos commercial.
The can and can-opener was a mild laugh, but giant props are rarely funny in live action and in animation, even less so.
Bender's spinning head trick and whistling is taken from the Harlem Globetrotters.
The general plot is that Bender is so un-sympathetic that he flushes Nibbler down the toilet because he's jealous.
The Professor implants a chip in Benders head to allow (force) him to feel other's emotions. It reminded me of the Star Trek movie (I think it was Star Trek 47) where Data puts an emotion chip in.
The whole trip into the sewer system was reminiscent of the Tick episode where Tick and Arthur go into the sewer to save the city.
They played off the urban myths a bit. Including the alligators in the sewer. They also create their own with the city of mutants.
The mutants turn out to be real, but there are no alligators, just crocodiles.
The church with the unexploded nuclear bomb was from "Beneath the Planet of the Apes". MST3K parodies it also.
The sewer access plate is from The PJs.

Amy: "Armondo and I are going to the back seat of his car for coffee"
Mutant 1: . . . our only hope is to offer him snackrafice Mutant 2: Yes an unspoiled virgin Leela: I volunteer Mutant 3: Nice try Leela but, we've all seen Zap Brannigan's web page.
All the "Dry Cleaning" Stores in the mutant city was pretty funny.
For the most part, they re-treaded too many established jokes and didn't do enough new stuff. Not one of the best episodes, but still funny.
Fry is really stupid Amy is a slut The Professor is doing irresponsible experiments etc
Does anyone know what the name of the monster in the sewer means?
