I was just looking at my Wallace and Gromit calendar and I noticed a striking resemblance to Bender and the evil robot dog in Nick Park's Wallace and Gromit: A Close Shave. I made a pic of it and you can see it here. Then come back and argue.

Okay, where to begin...
Similarties, both:
are robots have an opening in the chest have a little opening for the eyes have round eyes have cylinder shaped bodies
Differences:
dog has more defined joints (elbows, knees, and ankles) dog has bolts that show dog is far more detailed dog has two things (ears) instead of one thing (anntenne or thingie) on top of head dog has four fingers, bender has three dog has four toes, bender none bender's head looks like a cylinder with a hemisphere on top, dog looks like a laboratory beaker. dog is gold, bender is gray
I'm not trying to shoot you out of the sky with this, but I'm just stating my observations. Personally I think that the two don't look anything alike.
You robots all look the same to me....

This reminds me of the big stink Harvey Comics made about the ghost in the "Ghostbusters" logo, when lawyers for the company were claiming that the logo ghost ripped off one of Casper's uncles. Or when the Kellogg's people were griping about Exxon's tiger looking like Tony.
As for robot forms, they run the gamut from Tick-Tock the mechanial man in the Oz books to R2-D2 to Marvin the Paranoid Android to ROG-2000 to the Daleks to Data to Kryten to Twiki to ED-209 to Rosie...
Coincidence or not, I think Bender looks like he does for the animators' sake. Giving him the ol' "rubber hose" look for his arms and legs helps speed things up in the animation process, I'm sure.

Dalek were not robots.But they were really silly looking for them being universaly feired. Now the Cybermen. They were really silly in the begining......(Ramble, Ramble, Ramble..)
True...Daleks were technically cyborgs, but they had two fables of origin, so they were a bit complicated. I think the Cybermen improved dramatically as synthetic costume materials became more advanced through the years.
Now, the robot from "Robot"...THAT was a robot!!!
The robots from "Robots of Death" were also pretty roboty, too.
Is anyone else wondering when/whether Bender is going to have to answer to the Three Laws of Robotics?

I'm gonna say no. Preston is obviously an evil robot dog. Bender is a robot, evil on Tuesdays, but not really dog-like. I don't see the resemblance.
