First of all, whosever decision it was to switch the show from animated to live-action should be fired. Also, a show about race car driving? Didn't the Simpsons do an episode like that? And where was Fry, Bender and Leela?! This show had better improve or I'm gonna stop watching!!
Futurama sucked tonight!!!

And it also seemed like it'd been going on for a while! That counter at the head of the screen seemed sort of esoteric at first, possibly some kind of statement about conformity, but it got old real fast.

FUTURAMA WAS ON AT 11:30 IN NEW YORK!!!!!!! s s s s s s p o i l e r s
And holy shnikeys, that was one of the best ever. Beck is so fucking hilarious it's sad for every other musician. The Becktionary ("No, the RHYMING Becktionary"), "What was that song about again?", and (well, it wasn't Beck, but still, Beck's presence caused it), "Well, folks, prepare to get your lungs kicked out by folk singers." And "My Broken Friend" was a classic. The only thing I didn't quite like was the whole healed-all-of-a-sudden thing. Pretty convenient, eh? Although, "Holy crap, it's a miracle," was priceless.
And plus it was one of the best looking episodes of the show ever. And we got to see a bit of the rest of America, and I really must say, there's some Lucas-level planning going on in the creation of this future. But, you know, funny. Every new detail and wrinkle in the show just consitently blows me away.
Are you serious?! Dammit!!

Ughhhh. It was easily one of the worst this season. First they did a lame episode about Hollywood moviemaking and now they did one about the music industry. Finally at the end the car chase provided some interest (hover bridge...cool), but then even that ended aimlessly with them rowing away in the floating van.
Why do these entertainment satires come off as so empty and uninspired? Can't wait to get back to some episodes that actually make use of the sci-fi and future setting. Just like those horrible recent Simpsons eps that put the cast on some adventure tagging along with a guest star (Nel Gibson, Alec Baldwin, etc.), this one seemed just as phony and unconvincing. And what is this hero worship of Beck? Beck Schmeck. There's nothing more cringe-inducing than hearing fellow men get drippy over some male folk singer. I don't care how "amazing" he is. Yeech.
Yeah, I agree with you on this one. The episode was just awkwardly-written and another example of an episode that had almost nothing to do with the future setting other than the presence of the robots. And how come Beck's suddenly trying to reinvent himself as a folk singer when his last album consisted mostly of wild techno-funk songs?
It also shows a lack of imagination compared to past episodes. Here they transplant this whole idea of being disabled into the robot community directly from human experience with no spin to it at all. The episode truly didn't need to be in the future because this story could have been told with disabled humans. What happened to the bizarre contrasts and unique character traits of robots seen in episodes like I, Roommate, Fear of a Bot Planet, I Second That Emotion, Raging Bender, Mother's Day, The Honking, or even last week's Insane in the Mainframe. Not to mention how forced it was for the entire Planet Express crew to irresponsibly allow Bender to get his injury in the first place.

Place the blame squarly on the head of Eric Horsted. If only there was a site that listed the writers that wrote specific episodes up still then I could tell you what other episodes he has done.

Boy, if that isn't a directly descending curve of quality from the second one on... All the way from my second favorite episode in the series to one of my bottom three. It seems the new writers this season are bringing more inspiration to the table than the old ones.
I'll admit Horsted has a few clunkers, but all on the list below, save for "Flight" "Gets Made" and "Bendless Love" are all superb works in my mind. "Lesser Of Two Evils" constantly had great laughs, throughout "Old New York", to Flexo's character, and the revelation of thr Tiara. "I, Roomate" has become a sort of pseudo-classic when you consider the timeframe, "War Is The H-Word" was a bit juvenille, but that didn't stop it from being funny, and the latest addition I liked a lot. It's great to get artists like Beck instead of N'sync and Kid Rock, like the Simspons have been doing. He made for a very entertaining guest star, and through Zoidberg's pearls, to the Holland Tunnel ref, I thought the episode was humorous throughout, and one of the better ones of the season.

Almost all Bender Episodes. I see. And only 3 I rated better then average.
<< And how come Beck's suddenly trying to reinvent himself as a folk singer when his last album consisted mostly of wild techno-funk songs? >>
Because Beck, shockingly, can do more than just play techno funk (as he'll prove when he plays solo with Radiohead, et al, at a benefit concert this year). And he always plays folk songs at shows, and he usually releases a folk album every couple of albums. He's not trying to "reinvent" himself, he can just do more than one thing well (including self-deprication).
<< > There's nothing more cringe-inducing than hearing fellow men get drippy
And, well, to those who can't stand a grown man gush over talented artists, well, sorry, bud. We're here, we admire talent like a five year old admires play-doh, so get used to it. Perhaps someday we'll all be stoic and hard-assed about the things we like, telling each other, "Yeah, that was okay," or "Could have been worse," or anyother Comic Book Guy-icized flights of nonchalance, me, I'll be realizing life is too short and ballroom dancing with my girlfriend to Radiohead's Amnesiac.
And, plus, I can think of many worse instances of shoehorned in guests on cartoon shows (oh, every instance of it in the last two seasons of the simpsons?). At least here the artist and the show were on the same page and knew something about each other (i.e. that Beck hasn't "reinvented" himself. he can simply do lots of things with music, whether he's playing a harmonica or an Atari 2600). He may not be everyone's cup of tea, but he beats *NSYNC into the ground.
And, "this hero worship of Beck," I'm sure, is a highly limited phenomenon, especially among those who DON'T own a cache of glassblown time traveling devices like myself. Nothing to get non-commitally grouchy about.
Next up on Futurama: Bender and Tenacious D battle the FCC-3000. Benjamin.
Beck: Hello? Simpsons producer? Yeah, this is Beck, I wanna be on your show. Beck. B-E-C-K. You know, "I'm a loser, baby"? Hello? Hello??
Dial tone.
5 minutes later.
Beck: Um, hello? Futurama producer? Yeah...
You forgot "No, not Jeff Beck. Just plain Beck."

It is. The whole Bender as a cripple thing is beyond lame. He lost his body completely in A Head in the Polls. And now...we're supposed to believe he's become a paraplegic? His body is *removable* for god's sake! If the idea had been Bender singing to raise money for a new body (with Beck's help), that would have been believable. And it would have been a far better message than waaaah feel sorry for the poor broken robot. There's just sooooooo many ways that story could have been told better, and that's why I gotta rag on it.
=v= Now really, the doctor *did* say that his -- whaddyacall -- hydraulic system would have to be replaced. It's just that in the drama of the situation, nobody thought to do so. :^) <_Jym_>

No, the doctor (and why the hell was he even at the doctors??) said his hydraulic system was *shot*. With all the same implications as a human being paralyzed from the neck down. But...Bender's a robot. A machine. It doesn't work.
NTM A Head in the Polls had Nixon using a robot body. So it's pretty obvious that heads, whether they be robot or human, are somewhat interchangeable.
=v= And would have to be replaced. <_Jym_>

I could understand if the whole system needed to be replaced, and even the possibility that a new robot would be cheaper than the repairs, however say the robot can't be fixed makes no sense. He is 4 years old and his model is still in production.
I think the episode rushed the plot a bit to get it to fit into a single episode. If they had more time, they could have shown Bender using his tiny arms to steal hydraulic components from other broker robots. Or using the money he made singing about his kinship with other broken robots to pay for repairs. Or ripping off the money that was being donated.
Perhaps, Benders hydraulics were also damaged in the explosion on Spheron 5 (War is the H world) and they re-routed the fluid lines. What the doctor saw was mostly old damaged parts that had been bypassed along with some minor recent damage well within the ability of his self repair unit. The doctor may have gone to medical school with Zoidberg and not known what he was doing. And maybe a wizard did it.

Because he was a Cedar Sinewave Robot Hospital - another great play on words.
I'd think you were kidding, but since you watch FOX you're obviously an idiot. So I'm guessing you weren't kidding. Poor soul.
By the way did you like it when Dale Earnhardt's head made a cameo? All they had to do was take it out of the car.
Ouch!
Shut up you loser. Go back to RSPW with all those other wrestling fanatics that watch a product that's staler Barbara Bush's cunt!!
