Futurama wasn't on tonight (Boston) because Nascar ran till 8. That's right, not just Nascar, but a Nascar race on tape delay that'd been over for 3 hours! Are they nuts? No one in New England watches Nascar anyway. And they wonder why Futurama gets such poor ratings.
%@#*@#ing NASCAR
the world would be a better place without autoracing, of course, imo
For you. perhaps. But maybe not for the other 6 billion or so you thoughtfully share your planet with.
you can take me off the list as well. So that's 6 billion minus one.

Hey Dave, I wasn't trying to refute your point. I just wanted to be sure no one included me in that 6 billion. I get enough email as it is without joining another group. ;-)

Maybe your NASCAR fans are a little different than the ones around here. Drunken riots would tend to make me miserable, at least for a little while.
Actually NASCAR is nothing but an abomination on the face of television and should not only be disbanded but removed from American soil completely.
Why the hell are you cross posting this to 6 unrelated newsgroups you numbnuts. Did you think what you said was so witty you wanted everyone to hear it or what? We here at alt.tv.futurama don't apologize for this idiot. But we don't condone his actions either. This also applies to his other mindless crosspost today.

Yea, pretty much.
You there at alt.tv.futurama are idiots.
Really?
Here's a tip, Sparky :
YOU just crossposted as well.
I know. I like Futurerama to and NASCAR, but I won't crosspost onrelated things. I am tiried of this myself.

I'd be nice if all the affiliates did that when the show got pre-empted. Like networks used to do way back in the time when they gave a damn about the viewer.
Why would they do something as stupid and unprofitable as caring about viewers?

Not for me. Not since they didn't say they'd do it. The TV guide had them pushing back the whole lineup, starting with Futurama at 8. I wasn't watching. I stomped around the house swearing at them for a half hour when the Simpsons came on, and then set the VCR to record from 12-3, hoping that they'd go ahead and run Futurama and King of the Hill instead of the syndicated stuff. To log on this morning and find out that they ran it at 11 does not make me any happier...

It's irrelevant where the tracks are located. Sure, every race sells out, upwards of 150,000 people and more, every week for the entire season regardless of where they're driving. Auto racing is gaining popularity at a greater rate than ever before, due in no small part to FOX airing the races instead of TNT and, sad as it is to say, the death of Dale Earnhardt. New tracks are constantly being built, Homestead racetrack just went up a few years ago (only an hour from my house), Denver wants a NASCAR race, the tracks that host two races per year are being forced to give up one of their dates so other fans in other cities can get a chance to experience a race. It's a freaking juggernaut.
If it came right down to it, there are probably 10 NASCAR fans for every Futurama fan living in the states that comprise 'New England.'
Dave (and I'll betcha a Slurm the New Hampshire race sells out.)

Just sadly for Futurama fans. If there were more Futurama fans, it would get a better time slot. A good friend of mine was a mechanic on a NASCAR team and I like to tease him about how mindless racing is. I do know how complicated the sport really is and how much engineering goes into the cars. I still find it boring to watch.

I was once fortunate enough to participate in a high performance driving school (Skip Barber). It was a bigger thrill than skydiving. I have nothing but respect for people who live on the edge for a living like they do.

Oh yea. I've done some stuff at Mid-Ohio. But it still is a bit dull just to sit and watch. I usually only watch the last 30 laps or so of an oval race. I watch whole road course races but I'd still rather be doing it myself then just watching.
Mike Zaite wrote:
See, I would think that anyone's who's done some road raing would have an interest in NASCAR or at least Formula 1. My interest shot up 1000% after I attended the school.
I think a huge difference is whether or not you can identify with a favorite driver or, conversely, a most hated driver. It's really easy to watch a race if there's someone in it you're hoping does well or poorly. And lots of people watch just for the crashes, which can be extremely fabulous displays.
As opposed to most other sports, a race is never over until it actually ends. I've turned off/left plenty of baseball/football/basketball games long before they were over simply because the results were no longer in doubt. To its credit, auto racing is a sport where the last few seconds generally decide the winner.
Me too. But I think there's still something really impressive about people rubbing bumpers at 200 MPH. Moreso after taking the course.

Probably, but those of us in the other 5 New England states sometime like to refer to N.H. as "North Texas"....

Geez, first you rag on football, now NASCAR, and probably you'll rag on baseball come summer. Is there any sport you enjoy watching on TV?
I don't know about Mike, but I don't enjoy watching sports on TV at all. If I did enjoy it, I would still be ticked off if they showed it instead of Futurama or Simpsons. Especially when the TV guide says they are going to show Futurama, and then they don't.
